shakira - islands (the xx cover)(live @ glastonbury 2010)

[OMG!!! if there ever was a gayplosion incident, it may have just happened right here, right now!]
villagers - ship of promises
[like the song, the video offers an almost stream of (sub)consciousness from beginning to trippy end. pretty genius track if you ask me]
LIVE WONGIE: scissor sisters - all the lovers (kylie minogue cover) (live @ live lounge)
scissor sisters - all the lovers (kylie minogue cover) (live @ live lounge)

LIVE WONGIE: janelle monae - smile (charlie chaplin cover) (live @ billboard mashup mondays)
janelle monae - smile (charlie chaplin cover) (live @ billboard mashup mondays)
[what a hypnotizing voice. janelle adds a bit too many vocal acrobatics for my taste, but damn can she sing!]
LIVE WONGIE: robyn - try sleeping with a broken heart (alicia keys cover) / dancing on my own (live @ live lounge)
robyn - try sleeping with a broken heart (alicia keys cover)
[keeping it minimal, robyn offers her own take (including a flub) on the now classic alicia keys song. sweeeet!]
robyn - dancing on my own (live @ live lounge)
[yes, we still love this!]

uffie feat pharrell williams - add suv
[mirwais is on the controls for this release. i'm a bit underwhelmed, but there's so much online buzz on uffie at the moment that i'm definitely intrigued about her latest album 'sex dreams and denim jeans']
uffie feat pharrell williams - add suv (armand van helden vocal remix)
[oh this is SO much better! armand takes all the monotony of the original and makes this into a sweet summer jam.]
WONGIE POP SONG OF THE WEEK: b.o.b. feat hayley williams - airplanes
b.o.b. feat hayley williams (of paramore) - airplanes
of click here if you can't see the video
[a solid (massive) single for b.o.b. & hayley with just the right amount of pathos to make this pop song edgy. love it!]
SUMMER POP ANTHEM: katy perry feat snoop dogg - california gurls
katy perry feat snoop dogg - california gurls
[it's already #1 on the US charts (after 2 weeks), so i got nothing to add to it except that the video is thoroughly cheeky! kill the gummy bears!]
WONGIE DANCE SONG OF THE WEEK: dennis ferrer feat shingai shoniwa (the noisettes) - hey hey
dennis ferrer feat shingai shoniwa (the noisettes) - hey hey
[as usual the music video for these dance anthems are kind of crap, but the song... THE SONG... it's dark and sick in the best possible way! totally reminds me of my days dancing to deep house, lost in the beats and loving every minute of it!]
[check out this promo vid below. it's alot more interesting watching dennis jam to his own song than the video above!]
WONGIE INDIE SONG(S) OF THE WEEK: bombay bicycle club - ivy & gold / flaws (feat lucy rose) (live @ watchlistentell)
bombay bicycle club - ivy & gold
[the 1st infectious single off of bombay bicycle club's new album 'flaws'. the boys have definitely come into their own with this new release which only supports why nme called them the best new band of last year.]
bombay bicycle club feat lucy rose - flaws (live @ watchlistentell)
[i LOVE the ambient nature of these watchlistentell sessions. lead track off their upcoming album, i can't wait to hear more!]

lissie - pursuit of happiness (kid cudi cover)

VIDEO PREMIERE: sarah mclachlan - loving you is easy
sarah mclachlan - loving you is easy
[wow this is a very poppy single! after 7 years, looks like sarah has chilled out, opened up her musical horizons and come up with a boppy fun summer ditty for all to enjoy. sweet!]
lissie - when i'm alone
[singer/songwriter with a BIG voice to surprise us all. there's been a buzz around her for the past few months and now i understand why!
from her bio:
"It would be easy to misconstrue Lissie. Slight and blonde, a pretty, guitar-playing slip-of-a-thing, you might easily take her for a sweet Midwestern girl, a freckled balladeer borne of milk and cookies and cornfields. More fool you. For all the flaxen hair and big blue eyes, this girl is smart and gutsy and tough, with a big old voice to match it: Stevie Nicks taking Neko Case by the scruff of the neck, Laurel Canyon prettiness stewed in campfire and bourbon; there is, after all, a certain vocal quality that only a decade of beer and cigarettes can bring."]
WONGIE INDIE SONG OF THE WEEK: everything everything - schoolin
everything everything - schoolin
[omg, there's like 10 things going on in this song, yet the madness totally works! definitely a band to watch this season!]
sleigh bells - rill rill
[i know some people find their brand of noize pop annoying, but i kind of like the whole pure pop hiding behind a wall of noise schtick. throw in the fact that they're signed on to M.I.A.'s record label and thats all i need for their debut appreciation]
LIVE WONGIE: scissor sisters - fire with fire (live @ acoustic 1live radio germany / le grand journal)
[may we present to you two sides of the scissor sisters as they perform a beautiful acoustic version of 'fire with fire' (with jake giving the group a thumbs up at the end) and a full studio set (with over zealous clappers, thanks to the grand journal)!]
scissor sisters - fire with fire (live @ acoustic 1live radio germany)
scissor sisters - fire with fire (live @ le grand journal)
[unless these were shot on the same day, jake needs another shirt to wear!]
LIVE WONGIE: robyn - dancing on my own (live @ sommarkrysset)
robyn - dancing on my own (live @ sommarkrysset)
[oh my gosh, robyn LITERALLY is dancing on her own for this performance in a theme park. the irony (and the accidental mic gaffe) is not lost on our intrepid pop star and she gives the number her all. GENIUS!]
[it's been almost 2 years since the coral have put out new material and the band seem to have returned with a quiet bang. from the 2 tracks featured here, they group are definitely on a mellow front (but oh what beautiful melodies they have crafted in the process!). produced by john leckie (stone roses, radiohead, my morning jacket), we definitely have a strong contender for album of the year!]
LIVE WONGIE: mumford & sons - little lion man (live @ cd 101)
mumford & sons - little lion man (live @ cd 101)
[it's kind of nice coming back to a band that you've already watched twice, lived the album for a whole two seasons and basically moved on from. i've seen countless versions of this anthemic song but it cool to see that mumford and co have added some nice arrangements to their performance to spice up the song even more. wongie still hearts mumford and sons!]
LIVE WONGIE: christina aguilera - you lost me (live @ late night with david letterman)
christina aguilera - you lost me (live @ late night with david letterman)
[she nails this gorgeous track, but why do i get that nagging feeling that co-writer sia would probably do a much better job by not over singing this tune.]
plan b - prayin'
[if you have been following the wonderful music video series of plan b's awesome album 'the defamation of strickland banks', you'll TOTALLY love this extended 6 mins mini movie that shows what happens to strickland when he's ends up in prison (if only all prison riots were dance offs!). plan b is definitely one of the most exciting acts to come out of the UK this year and this continues to showcase his skills as an all around performer. brilliant!]
WONGIE GORGEOUS SONG OF THE WEEK: washed out feat caroline polachek - you and i
washed out feat caroline polachek - you and i
[oh this is one of those songs that you can just lose yourself in. layered with just enough vocal patterns to geek out on, the song is made even better with the addition of caroline polachek's (chairlift) voice into the mix. GORGEOUS!!!!! oh and if you love what you hear, its part of an 8 week free mp3 series thanks to kia/adult swim! go and download it now!]

NEW THEOPHILUS LONDON!: theophilus london - i want you
theophilus london - i want you
[we tipped theophilus back in april, not only offering a free mp3 but also the link to his latest mixtape 'i want you'. well today we offer up the title track/video from his infamous mixtape, which as you'll hear is a really solid reworking of the marvin gaye classic. already attached to mark ronson as a producer, we'll be hearing ALOT more of theophilus in the coming months.]

cee lo - georgia
[ceelo returns with his first solo recordings post gnarls barkley and it's a lovely retro 60's tribute to georgia. if you like what you hear, the great folks at rcrd lbl are offering the mp3 for free! sweeeeeeet!]
REMIX PROJECT: A-team theme song (rye rye feat nguzuguzu )
[last week, we wrote about how the A-team folks commissioned a few artists to reinterpret the theme song. this week we are finally able to offer up rye rye's HOT version just for you (it even features a laser!). enjoy!]
WONGIE SONG OF THE WEEK: one republic - marchin on
one republic - marchin on
[omg, i'm such a sucker for pop songs that add layer upon layer of musical/percussive instrumentation. this song amazingly does it perfectly!]
NEW BROKEN BELLS!: broken bells - the ghost inside
broken bells - the ghost inside
[oh how i LOVE christina hendricks! i keep on thinking there's a whole section cut out of this video... maybe the directors cut explains alot more of the (seemingly) abrupt ending?]
WONGIE CUTE SONG OF THE WEEK: kate nash - kiss that grrrl
kate nash - kiss that grrrl
[a surprisingly emotionally anxious song masquerading as a cute poppy ditty! good ol kate nash once again proves she's a smart sassy songwriter. love it!]
NEW PROFESSOR GREEN!: professor green feat lily allen - just be good to green
professor green feat lily allen - just be good to green
[yet another sassy sampling for uk rapper professor green with a crossover made even easier by having the lily allen allegiance. sweet!]
glee - faithfully
[bringing it back full circle, the glee cast performs another journey classic for it's finale next week. goosebumps cause it's ending for the season, or cause finn and rachel sing this so well? sigh...]
ceo - come with me
[oh my goodness, how awesome is this song? the act itself is a bit of a secret, with self descriptive statements like "ceo is you and you are me and i am ceo", one can luckily excuse the bollocks and enjoy the song at hand.]
stars - fixed
[they're back!! the awesome montreal based melodrama popsters return with the 1st single taken off their upcoming album 'the five ghosts'. i cannot wait to hear the drama that awaits us on rest of the album!]
sky ferreira - one
[we tipped sky two months back with her 1st release '17', but check out her official 1st single produced by hot producers bloodshy & avant (toxic). definitely a track to play on repeat in the coming months!]
REMIX PROJECT: A-team theme song (just blaze / dan the automator)
[recently the folks behind the A-team film reboot commissioned a bunch of producers/artists to rework the A-team theme song for 2010. the list includes rapper rye rye, mstrkrft, dan the automator and producer just blaze. i've got two of the awesome results below (with a behind the scenes of how they came up with the remixes too). wait until you hear the rye rye version!!! (you'll have to wait for that one!)]
