NEW EXAMPLE!: example - stay awake

example - stay awake
[not as strong as his #1 smash, 'changed the way you kissed me' if you ask me. good video though...]

WONGIE INDIE DANCE SONG OF THE WEEK: sbtrkt feat roses gabor - pharoahs

sbtrkt feat roses gabor - pharoahs
[we TOTALLY dug sbtrkt's "wildfire" track earlier this month and now we fall even more in love with their follow up track "pharoahs". featuring choice vocalist roses gabor, the track has all the elements of a kicking 90's house tune but filtered through a mellowed out soundsystem, making it kind of REALLY awesome! we dig!]

FOLK PUNK AUDIO BUZZ: frank turner - if ever i stray

frank turner - if ever i stray
[there is something so 'peoples troubadour' about singer/songwriter frank turner that his fans are just hardcore about him. throw in the fact that his songs are insanely catchy and anthemic therefore making him the torchbearer of the folk punk movement. love this guy (even though he sometimes screams at me too loud)]

WONGIE INDIE SONG OF THE WEEK: bombay bicycle club - shuffle (video premiere)

bombay bicycle club - shuffle
[we've already made this song our fave of the week back in june, so really this new video premiere is just an extension of our love!]

LIVE WONGIE: robyn - every teardrop is a waterfall (coldplay cover) / call your girlfriend (live @ bbc radio 1 live lounge)

my gal robyn is usually flawless when she performs, but it sounds like our pop diva is a bit under the weather for this performance... she gives it her best and offers up a lovely cover of the current coldplay pop anthem nevertheless.

robyn - every teardrop is a waterfall (coldplay cover)

robyn - call your girlfriend (live @ bbc radio 1 live lounge)

WONGIE SONG OF THE WEEK: snow patrol - called out in the dark

snow patrol - called out in the dark
[they're baaaaack! and it sounds like our scotland based band has moved out of the mopey house and into a fun one! on repeat!!]

NEW ED SHEERAN!: ed sheeran - you need me, i don't need you

ed sheeran - you need me, i don't need you
[singer/songwriter/vocal rapper ed sheeran has charmed his way into the top 10 with his catchy folk anthem 'the a team' and now the boy offers up his other side with this new sing/rap hybrid release (there are elements of jason mraz here and that's totally fine, since we love the diversity and longevity of that mans' talents). definitely having his moment, ed sheeran!]

ok go feat pilobolus- all is not lost
[ok go return to our screens with yet another amazing visual feast to add to their long list of cool vids. this time collaborating with the dance troupe pilobolus, the band offer various versions of this video that asks for repeat viewings (the 2D is seen here, 3D via nintendo and an amazing google chrome version that is just mesmerizing and interactive!). have fun!!!]

WONGIE DISCOVERY: maverick sabre - let me go / i used to have it all (live @ later with jools holland)

after the success of plan b, the race to find a follow up vocalist/rapper seems to have landed with maverick sabre, a london based kid with interesting jazzy vocal phrasings and hip hop swagger. the presentation is intriguing and definitely on my radar as an act to watch based on the following videos below.

maverick sabre - let me go

maverick sabre - i used to have it all (live @ later with jools holland)

POP GAL: pixie lott - all about tonight

pixie lott - all about tonight
[the song is a solid, but there's something kind of dance pop for aunties about this track... (tin-ny beats? the fact that pixie doesn't look comfortable doing choreography? the too short hair?) with the saturdays kicking it up a notch in the dance pop department, pixie needs to remix this track to have some more club balls. just my opinion]

WONGIE SONG OF THE MONTH: emeli sande - heaven

emeli sande - heaven
[oh my gosh where has this song been all my life? with elements of classic massive attack, a funky drummer hook and ending with a soaring choir, this 1st single by scottish singer/songwriter emeli sande is just epic! already buzzed in the past year as a guest vocalist for wiley and chipmunk, emeli looks set to overshadow her past appearances with this awesome awesome song. LOVE it!]

WONGIE INDIE POP SONG(s) OF THE WEEK: foster the people - helena beat / pumped up kicks

nothing like a bit of los angeles summery indie pop to make your wednesday a lovely one. these boys definitely have the knack for the hook (plus they are CAH-UUUUTE!) and are gaining traction with the npr/kcrw music lovers set. if you're not already on the foster the people train, time to get on now!

foster the people - helena beat

foster the people - pumped up kicks

WONGIE VIDEO OF THE WEEK: beastie boys feat santigold - don't play no game that i can't win

beastie boys feat santigold - don't play no game that i can't win
[yeah this video falls under crazy town as director spike jonze offers up an 11 mins action figure extravaganza that offers yeti's, submarines and explosions galore. random, but addictive!]

WONGIE SONG OF THE MONTH: metronomy - the bay

metronomy - the bay
[why this mercury prize nominee track hasn't been part of my soundtrack this summer is beyond me, but better late than never!]

WONGIE FOLK SONG(s) OF THE WEEK: laura marling - sophia / a creature i don't know

i don't need to write to much about the following two songs, cause they are AMAAAAAAAAZING!!!! working with producer ethan jones (ray lamontagne / kings of leon), laura enters into the realm of a wider musical orchestration and still keeps the essence of her folk roots (plus the confidence of her vocals!) the two examples below are just incredible! enjoy!

laura marling - sophia

laura marling - a creature i don't know

WONGIE SONG OF THE WEEK: calvin harris - feel so close

calvin harris - feel so close
[cutie patootie calvin harris keeps on cranking out the hits. while most of the world is still going mad for his kelis collaboration 'bounce', calvin offers up a lovely post summer dance track just beggin for a sunset boogie. great track!]

nero feat alana - promises
[kicking! just kicking!! i have nothing more to add to this.]

AUDIO BUZZ - the saturdays - all fired up

the saturdays - all fired up
[the lyrics are silly, but the track is pretty club ready as is! who knew that the girls had it in them to be legit club divas?]

NEW BJORK!: bjork - crystalline

bjork - crystalline
[firstly, i'm back! secondly (and even more importantly), so is bjork! with a crazy ipad app that features new ways to experience each track off her biophilia album, check out the official first video for her album reuniting her with the amazing michel gondry! love this!]

WONGIE SONG OF THE WEEK: dev - in the dark

dev - in the dark
[the song speaks for itself, a perfect slice of cheesy euro pop mixed in with sassiness and spice! i loved it a few months back as a leaked audio and it still holds as one of the best tracks of the summer!]

WONGIE POP SONG OF THE WEEK: beyonce - best thing i never had

beyonce - best thing i never had
[the lingerie intro is too long!! wish there was a better storyline to match the greatness of this song!]

POP GAL: cher lloyd - swagger jagger

cher lloyd - swagger jagger
[last years' x-factor phenom cher lloyd finally unleashes her hot mess of a song for her teen fans. i hated the track when i heard it awhile back, but now with this video, it kind of lessens the pain. i'll also probably be singing this in my head for the next week, so 'ugh'....]

WONGIE INDIE SONG OF THE WEEK: sbtrkt - wildfire

sbtrkt - wildfire
[there's something so massive attack here! sbtrkt is a producer/remixer getting some serious buzz with his latest track featuring little dragon's yukimi nagano on vocals. would you call this dubstep soul? whatever it is, it's hot!]
