WONGIE POP SONG OF THE WEEK: kylie minogue - timebomb

kylie minogue - timebomb
[even though the video is highly overdirected by christian larson (with some killer pov shots and an bad ass motorbike sequence), at the core of this is a really solid pop dance number that is NOT produced by calvin harris! so cool points alone for that choice. in celebration of 25 years in the bizness, this kind of celebration is why kylie has managed to be loved for so long!]

WONGIE LUSH SONG OF THE WEEK: the maccabees - went away

the maccabees - went away

[due to the fact that i'm a 3 week work trip, i can only post the videos and limit my comments for the time being. so hopefully you'll enjoy just my video choices for the time being! this one is lush!!]

WONGIE SONG OF THE WEEK: rita ora feat tinie tempah - r.i.p.

rita ora feat tinie tempah - r.i.p.
[it's definitely interesting to see the progression of how far the definition of a 'popular music' goes these days. case in point, rita ora's current smash has elements of dubstep, hip hop swagger, a sweet sample from nneka's 2009 anthem "heartbeat" and the poppiest vocal hook i've heard in awhile (thanks to rapper drake no less). weirdly, the mash up works wonders and offers rita a possible #1 this weekend on the UK charts. edgy pop lab experiment = success!]

AUDIO BUZZ: passion pit - take a walk

passion pit - take a walk
[the beantown boys return with a brand spanking fun new single to tease their upcoming album 'gossamer'! let summer begin now!! enjoy!]

POP BOYS: lawson - when she was mine

lawson - when she was mine
[there is nothing wrong with boy bands that actually are IN a band, but when they're so shamelessly made to be a prettier watered down version of the script, well... i'm skeptical. luckily the song isn't offensive and hopefully they'll have stronger material off their debut album. we shall see!]

NEW VIDEO!: wisin & yandel feat jennifer lopez - follow the leader

wisin & yandel feat jennifer lopez - follow the leader
[normally this wouldn't make my blip, but the parkour filled video with jlo and crew running around the streets of acapulco is actually kind of cool. director jessy terrero does a very solid job of streamlining the stunts with the actual stars and in typical jlo fashion, product placement is heavily involved. it's OTT and shameless and well, i watched it from beginning to end... like you will too!]

WONGIE DRAMA SONG OF THE WEEK: paloma faith - picking up the pieces

paloma faith - picking up the pieces
[oh this is good! like get on your knees, sing up to the skies, good! diva in waiting paloma faith returns with a strong kickoff single for her upcoming album 'fall to grace' and hopefully it'll help bring her the crossover recognition that so far seems to have eluded her. we like... we REALLY like!]

WONGIE VIDEO OF THE WEEK: spiritualized - hey jane

spiritualized - hey jane
[director ag rojas released this disturbingly compelling 10 mins character study of a transgender girl just trying to make a living on the streets about 2 months ago (which kind of missed my radar, but better late than never!). of course things get pretty dark by the end and well... i swear this could easily be expanded into a sundance level indie film. really quite brilliant.]

WONGIE INDIE SONG OF THE WEEK: perfume genius - dark parts

perfume genius - dark parts
[inviting his mom to be the subject of both the video and lovely song, mike hadreas offers up another gem from his beautiful album 'put your back n 2 it'. le sigh...]

WONGIE VIDEO OF THE WEEK: keane - disconnected

keane - disconnected
[co-directed by the spanish duo of juan antonio bayona and sergio g sanchez (aka the director/screenwriter of the awesome horror flick 'the orphanage'), the video is an ode to the 70's gothic horror films. not too much of a fan of the keane song, but visually, this is prime!!!]

VIDEO PREMIERE!: justin bieber - boyfriend

justin bieber - boyfriend
[why does the song sound like it's just on repeat (heck the 1st minute cuts abruptly and then starts from the beginning again). maybe it's still unfinished and we'll get a new version a week from now (cause why would anyone release meh stuff like this?) but more importantly, what is the name of justin's lip gloss color cause it sure is pretty!]

WONGIE SONG OF THE MONTH: patrick watson - into giants

patrick watson - into giants
[matching the joyous audio experience of patrick's brilliant song, video artist/longtime collaborator brigitte henry offers up a clip that goes from webcam to vaudeville (avec choreography!) to a supposed live gig all via three brilliant chapters. i heart this song so darn much and so should you!]

NEW LITTLE BOOTS!: little boots - every night i say a prayer

little boots - every night i say a prayer
[someone is embracing the late 80's/early 90's motif a little too closely (does anyone else hear old school st etienne here?). with a tres student-y video to boot, not sure if this is the big splash that little boots is hoping for her sophomore return (maybe the remixes will kill?). shame... oh and if you want the song for free click here]

WONGIE SWEET SONG OF THE WEEK: sucre - light up

sucre - light up
[featuring members of eisley and mutemath, this texas based trio are definitely coughing up some serious sugar. with their debut album 'a minor bird' just released, this gentle track is a nice intro to their lovely lovely sound!]

WONGIE INDIE POP SONG OF THE WEEK: dragonette - let it go

dragonette - let it go
[i have a feeling this will be one of my fave tracks to blast during the summer! will this FINALLY be the year of the crossover for this awesome canadian electro pop outfit? my feeling is a yes!]

VIDEO PREMIERE: cheryl cole - call my name

cheryl cole - call my name
[hey boys... when i meet you under the bridge in my bra ...lets shuffle! yep, it's the return of chezza and she's got calvin harris on the producing tip throwing one of the catchiest summer choruses money can buy. it falls under my meh radar, but it'll also probably be my favorite song by the weeks end. darnit!]

VIDEO PREMIERE!: cher lloyd - want u back

cher lloyd - want u back
[sure we loved this song back in january, but that was before the powers at sony decided to bring our fave edgy x-factor UK chav popstress over to the US for a relaunch. 5 months on and i'm still a fan! grrrr!!!!]
