WONGIE SONG OF THE WEEK: antony and the johnsons - crazy in love

antony and the johnsons - crazy in love
[nothing like good ol antony to cover a classic beyonce song to show us how desperate the lyrics really are... sweet!]

[title track taken off the upcoming another world EP, it's the return of everyone's favorite transgender torch singer antony! after guesting on loads of albums these past two years, i'm just excited that new material is coming our way. this is a nice tease!]

[hercules and love affair is actually the brainchild of nyc based dj andrew butler. working through the hot dfa record label, andrew has found an amazing array of collaborators to work on his alter ego album project due in march. first off the bat is with the awesome antony hegarty (of antony and the johnsons). with his haunting vocals and disco throwback grooves, "blind" is easily one of the best songs of the season (only to be made better with the classy reworkings of legendary house DJ frankie knuckles which i've also offered up for you!). enjoy!]

discovery: linda thompson featuring antony - beauty (written by rufus wainwright)

linda thompson feat antony - beauty [link 2]

[though i've heard of folk singer linda thompson before, i never knew that she led a very tumultuous life of high drama (mostly with her ex-husband richard) and even lost her voice at one point (which she got back by injecting botox into her throat!). this is probably why she sings melancholy so well. which is also appropriate that her son's (singer teddy thompson) best friend rufus wainwright, wrote her a tune and got antony to join in on the emotional fest. personally, i can't wait to check out her album versatile heart which even features a contribution from tom waits. thanks to stereogum and docopenhagen for the song introduction]
