[in conjunction with new album details of roisin murphy's upcoming album overpowered, a few b-sides emerged on the interweb. co-writing songs with the likes of Seiji, Andy Cato (Groove Armada), Jimmy Douglass, Ill Factor, Parrot & Dean and Richard X, the new album promises to be an ode to the dancefloor where, according to the press release, "pop meets dance and gives birth to a glitter-drenched masterpiece". if the tracks above are just b-sides, i can only imagine what the album sounds like!]

[i've been reading a few blog entries by swedish musical prodigy emil svanangen (aka loney, dear) and it seems that he's happy from the expanded attention touring with the loney, noir album, but misses the time to hole up and write music. it must be so weird to be so public after being so musically insular for 4 albums (emil recorded most of his stuff in his parents basement). so i've decided to offer up one of those basement creations in the form of "i do what i can". taken from his independantly released album 'citadel band', when he sings the line 'but it all brings me down' i get the biggset tinge of 'aw'... it's just beautiful!]

[it's pretty amazing when a cover version not only gets released as a b-side to the original single, but then gets so popular that it ends up being played more in the process. such is the case when franz ferdinand did a brilliant cover of lcd soundsystem's "all my friends". i've been listening to both versions nonstop and at this point, i don't really care which version of this awesome song i listen to! thanks to ifmv for the video tip]

[still at cannes (which is why i'm keeping this short) but i just found out rufus will be attending the festival to promote the denys arcand film L’Âge des ténèbres (days of darkness, age of innocence)! though one side of me wants to stalk him like a good fanboy, the cineaste in me will most likely just go attend the world premiere this friday and call it a day. until then, check out this bonus track from his album release the stars.
