WONGIE POP SONG OF THE WEEK: tinashe - flame

tinashe - flame
this has been on high repeat over on the wongie carmix mainly because of it's pop perfection from beginning to end. it's actually tinashe's most radio friendly song and will hopefully bring this talented singer/dancer a whole much deserved audience. love this song and so should you!

WONGIE SONG OF THE WEEK: kda feat tinashe - just say

kda feat tinashe - just say
[UPDATE: one of my fave songs of the year gets an official video with tinashe dancing like a well... press play!!]
OMG this kda house tune with it's progressive tribal beats is the perfect dance song i've heard in ages! throw in tinashe's smooth vocals and you've got a massive club smash on your hands. it's SO good!! turn it up!!

WONGIE SONG OF THE WEEK: snakehips feat tinashe & chance the rapper - all my friends / (99 souls remix)

every now and then one just needs to hear a catchy anthem that'll make the outside news less heartbreaking than it actually is. somehow this hip hop singalong by uk duo oliver lee and james carter (aka snakehips) has cut through and become my go to happy place for the week. with stories of parisians going back out to their local restaurants, watching movies and even listening to music again, this wonderful track just gives me hopeful images of total strangers gathered around and singing loudly to this in collective spirited joy.

oh and then check out 99 souls remix of the track making it into a house anthem with the same singalong effect!

WONGIE SOUL POP SONG OF THE WEEK: tinashe - all hands on deck

tinashe - all hands on deck
any song with a pan flute breakdown is awesome in my book! a definite companion piece to her massive hit last year '2 on', tinashe puts out yet another low key club banger that just begs a bit of booty poppin' (i gotta learn some of the dance moves in this video too!). such fun!

WONGIE POP DEMO OF THE WEEK: calvin harris feat tinashe - 5am

calvin harris feat tinashe - 5am
recorded during their sessions for calvin harris' current album 'motion', this rihanna sounding number is definitely a fun demo that could easily show up on the 'deluxe' version to be released later this year. we shall see, but for now it's a jam that you can only enjoy here!

NEW ERIK HASSLE!: erik hassle - ready for you / innocence lost (feat tinashe)

it's been awhile since we heard from erik hassle and much has to do with the fact that the swedish soul singer took 2 years off to regroup and find himself. so when he decided to get back into the game, erik packed off to LA and came up with his currently amazing EP of nu-soul mixed with an eclectic modern sound. here are two tracks off his excellent EP 'somebody's party'... and it's GOOD!

WONGIE SOUL POP SONG OF THE WEEK: tinashe feat schoolboy q - 2 on (video premiere)

tinashe feat schoolboy q - 2 on
[UPDATED WITH VIDEO PREMIERE]
nothing like a chilled soul voice over a sexy groove (and hopefully some slick choreography) to make me take notice. besides being the new gal on the block, tinashe also has a day job as an actress (two and half men), which probably explains why she's so confident on the dancefloor. she's on our radar watch.

WONGIE SONG OF THE WEEK: tinashe - zambezi

tinashe - zambezi
[oh this is really special! definitely one of the best songs i've heard this week! full of magical surprises!]

WONGIE DISCOVERY: tinashe - mayday / mr presumption (channel 4 intros) / always like this (bombay bicycle club cover) / mayday (acoustic)

[here's a nice discovery, 25 year old tinashe hails from zimbabwe but has been toiling the UK indie scene for a few years before getting signed by amy winehouse's a&r rep to a major label. the result is an eclectic sound that's classic r&b mixed in with straight up acoustic soul and a dash of indie thrown in. weirdly, his wonderful debut single sounds a tad overproduced when placed by his awesome simple performances. i've included a few highlights so you can decide for yourself. nevertheless, he's going to be big in 2010!]

[from tinashe's myspace page, words from the boy himself:

I was originally shipped over from Zimbabwe so I could eventually grow to become a doctor/lawyer and wire money back home via Western Union, that didn't go so well... I blame/thank MJ.

I smiled & nodded to avoid bullying over my African accent at school until the Eastenders elocution lessons started to pay off... I can now slip in between both rather seamlessly... I grew up in Hackney. I will always be a Hackney boy but I'm enjoying being in a state of flux. Life is bigger than London.

I'm currently more in love with my guitar than I have ever been. I make guitar music. I am not ashamed to say l love pop music. That's what its all about for me. Good music fuelled by the world around me.]
