dillon francis feat t.e.e.d. - without you
what a nice gentle song with beats! dj dillon francis does the smart collaboration thing by getting orlando higginbottom (aka t.e.e.d.) to provide the sweet vocals to dillon's electronic aesthetic. nice one.
Edging closer to the top 20, this batch consists of some of my favorite bands of last year (The Maccabees, Dirty Projectors, Everything Everything and Alt J are all f-ing brilliant!) that offered up a mix of tracks that both appealed to my quiet internal and boppy external, all the while teaching me some quirky musicality no one else had.
While the rest of the bunch definitely showcases the fact that electronic music and hipster soul have ALOT in common these days (Solange, Santigold and Azealia Banks being the best examples of what I'm talking about). Of course fans of dance music will not be surprised that the epic Swedish House Mafia track made the list, as did the uber catchy Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (I mean the vocal hook is "feet don't fail me now!"). Finally 2012 discovery Haim make their way into the top 30 with their happy go lucky sunny pop that feels both retro and fresh at the same time. Just love these gals!!!
totally enormous extinct dinosaurs - your love
i love how TEED totally respects all the grooves from 90's house music and throws in current grooves while he's at it. the song plays exceptionally well live and LOVE strutting to this while on the streets of NYC.
totally enormous extinct dinosaurs - tapes and money
[the dumbest name in indie dance electro pop keeps on pumping out amazing tunes to make me forget about my disliking of the name. the song is awesome and the video just makes me want to rush out and just bop out at a club now (but please do it after you've seen the whole video here please!)]
4play presents - totally enormous extinct dinosaurs
[after falling in love with the song 'garden' last month, little was still known about orlando higginbottom's alias. thank goodnesschannel 4 commissioned this mini doc about this talented young man (with some previews of his upcoming debut)!]
joe goddard feat valentina - gabriel
[fans of hot chip will undoubtedly recognize band member joe goddard immediately. though the group is on a mini break, joe has not only launched a new label greco-roman (which features our last post totally enormous extinct dinosaurs on their roster), but also an EP featuring this amazing gem of a song. reminding me of the classic house tracks of my youth, this is definitely one of my fave dance songs of the moment!]
totally enormous extinct dinosaurs - garden
[dumb name, but great electro pop duet of the season! totally enormous extinct dinosaurs (aka TEED) is actually the alias of orlando higginbottom, a one stop shop of production/songwriting and vocals (except in this case). we dig!]
