a fine frenzy - come on, come out (new video)
a fine frenzy - come on, come out [link 2]
[i have no clue how acts that fall under EMI records get promoted these days. with the label getting rid of most of their record label heads (wtf indeed!), acts like a fine frenzy are left to fend for themselves in the already saturated world of music. alison sudol deserves better. so in the spirit of promotion and hype, i implore you to not only discover how wonderful this artist is, but go out and get her underappreciated 2007 debut album one cell in the sea now.]

best of 2007: fave acts so far (1/2 year report)
this has been an amazing music year so far with new stuff coming at me daily (much that i've shared back to you). but amoung the batch, a few acts have filtered through and kept on returning to my personal playlists.since it feels like such a slow week, i figured now is probably the best time to re-introduce some of the artist highlights of 2007 from january to june (in no particular order):
[for friends and fans of wongie, you probably know the class of 2007 (so far) pretty well. but for the rest of you, hopefully you can discover some gems from the list below. also you may have noticed that wongie faves mika, amy winehouse, gossip and lily allen aren't here (since they were loved in 06, i kind of took them out of the lineup just cause i'm a stickler like that!)]
tracey thorn - raise the roof
siobhan donaghy - ghosts
just jack - i talk to much
loney, dear - saturday waits
peter bjorn & john - young folks
feist - my moon my man (boys noize remix)
rufus wainwright - sansoucci
rihanna - rehab
glen hansard & marketa irglova (ONCE the soundtrack) - falling slowly
lil mama - lip gloss (absorb the lip gloss mash up remix)
kate nash - foundations
mia - boyz
cherry ghost - 4am
sara bareilles - love song
a fine frenzy - almost lover
roisin murphy - overpowered

a fine frenzy - almost lover (video premiere)
a fine frenzy - almost lover [link 2][just got the heads up that one of my favorite acts of the summer, a fine frenzy, has finally made a video for the heartbreaking ballad "almost lover" taken from her debut album one cell in the sea. not only that, but she's been added as part of the highly influential VH1 'you oughta know' list. i'll update with an embedded version when i find a copy, but for now, check out the video in quicktime, windows or ifilm format.]

more new videos: namie amuro, a fine frenzy, norah jones, the polyphonic spree, paul mccartney
namie amuro - hide and seek
[one of japan's biggest female j-pop singers releases the first single from her upcoming album play. though i'm not usually tipped on all things japanese, namie is kind of majorly big with fans of jpop and this single is just too darn catchy to ignore... (and no, i don't speak japanese)]
a fine frenzy - almost lover (rehersals.com live performance) [link 2]
[personally, i'm kind of excited to get ahold of a fine frenzy's debut album one cell in the sea (due mid july) based on what i've heard on her myspace page. as you can see from this performance, the girl is pretty darn good live. so i'm kind of sold at this point...]
norah jones - until the end
[it's kind of weird now that i've seen norah during the press conference to her acting debut for my blueberry nights. basically she's kind of young and goofy, which totally doesn't reflect the music that she sings. perhaps one day she'll record an album that fits the true norah.]
the polyphonic spree - running away
[gosh a video made of 70,000 photos. i've got a headache just thinking about it!]
paul mccartney - dance tonight
[just the fact that michel gondry directed this video is worth the watch alone.]

hear good music: a fine frenzy
there's nothing more suspect than when an artists myspace bio spends a good 3 paragraphs about "dreaming of what was to come and reveling in the antics of her ant-sized neighbors...from the eyes of an outsider. A spectator" (i know, puke inducing right?). but luckily for 22 year old alison sudol, her intimate dreamy sound allows us to overlook the poor marketing judgement from her record label. think regina spektor meets tori amos but filtered through a more pop aesthetic and you get the idea of a fine frenzy's sound. from her myspace page, the five tracks on offer are all pretty dynamic which makes me kind of eager to listen to her debut album one cell in the sea coming out in july.
until then, check out her 1st video below:
