news flash: another classy britney spears moment

i'm still on vacation, so i'll keep this short.

britster walked into a salon in tarzana, california, and just shaved off her head. then she went to a tattoo parlour nearby and got two new tats to solidify her trash status. hey, at least she's not flashing her 'naan-ny' any more.

read all about it on eonline here.

justin timberlake - what goes around (comes around)
DIRECTORS CUT
[Finally!!!! is this what we've been waiting for all this time? a simplistic overhyped 9 minutes of the mini movie with dialogue written by nick cassavetes, directed by samuel bayer and co-starring scarlett johansson and shawn pyfrom.]

the killers - read my mind (world premiere)

the killers - read my mind
[my fave song off the sam's town album. i totally love this song and the video is just plain old kawaii (the band dancing across a group of japanese schoolkids is just awesome). makes me wanna go to tokyo today and just go a bit silly there. hm... i AM on vacation in asia...]

new video thursday: nas feat chrisette michelle, fergie, joss stone, the hidden cameras, gnarls barkley

nas feat chrisette michele - can't forget about you
[love the 'unforgettable' sampling and the cameo at the end, but the real gem is guest vocalist chrisette michele. i can't wait to hear her debut album as it'll be a hot scorcher for 2007!]

fergie feat ludacris - glamorous
[no matter how much i wanna hate her, the singles end up creeping in my psyche whether i want them to or not. this one only took two weeks to get under my skin]

joss stone - tell me bout it
[i'm actually looking forward to her upcoming album (especially the lauryn hill duet), but what's with the crappy hair color? ugh!]

the hidden cameras - death of a tune
(check out the blog red blondehead for this track and more)
[ah... the hidden cameras... just love them to bits. nothing more to add really]

gnarls barkley - smiley faces
[released a few months back in the uk, the single finally gets a release in the states (as does the wonderful video). just the rights and clearances alone make you wanna see this video]

M.I.A. - bird flu (world premiere)

M.I.A. - bird flu
[OH MY GOD! it's like my birthday came 5 months ahead of time! my fave rappa MIA finally unleashes the 1st single off her upcoming album and it's a scorcher. raw and ruff with total big ups to her sri-lankan roots i'm totally psyched that she's trying new sounds this time around. thanks to the hot site discobelle for the tip!]

mix it up: robbie williams - she's madonna

robbie williams - she's madonna (kris menace vocal re-interpretation mix)
[much better remix for robbie's 3rd single. as for the pics... well... looks like a new "scandal" is brewing on the rags. personally, if it was that easy to nab robbie, i would have dressed up like that and stood around in a lobby ages ago!]

hear good music: loney, dear

meticulously recorded in his stockholm apartment, the swedish popster loney, dear (aka Emil Svanängen) finally releases his 1st major label debut loney, noir via the influential subpop records.

though emil has single handedly sold thousands of copies of self-recorded cd-r's to his fans back home, the buzz around him is starting to swell into sweet indie world proportions with good press stemming from the uk and now the states. with music that is at once dreamy, exhilarating, melancholic and innocent, on stage, loney dear transforms into a seven man band with each member playing various instruments.

based on a few mp3 listens, i've already purchased my tickets for their march show in nyc! definitely my fave new band of the month!

loney, dear - i am john
[off the debut album loney, noir, this is the song that introduced me to the band. looove it!]

loney, dear - the city, the airport (live performance)(CSS remix)
[taken from his previous album solonge, this is a good idea of what to expect from loney, dear live. is it just me or does everyone travel in a band of like 10 people these days?]

loney, dear - i love you (in with the arms)(live performance)
[he gets all manic a la damien rice, and that's a good thing!]

johnny cash - help me (world premiere)

johnny cash - help me
[it's johnny cash. what more is there to say? features an ex-inmate from folsom prison. dramatic stuff]

FAVE video of the week: snow patrol - open your eyes

snow patrol - open your eyes
[oh my god this is just plain brilliant!!! shot in 1976, the images for this video actually come from a short film called "C'était un Rendezvous" by the french filmmaker Claude Lelouch. the director has never allowed the footage to be used for any purposes (making it a cult film in the process) until now. add to the fact that it fits perfectly to snow patrol's single. amazing really!]

claude lelouch - c'etait un rendez vous (1976)
[because i'm such a film nerd, here is the full experience! shot during a 5:30am drive through paris, this is just crazy how fast the driver went that day (this was shot in a single take with NO editing whatsoever). which makes the ending completely dramatic and all the more beautiful.]

red nose day 07: sugababes vs girls aloud - walk this way (world premiere)

sugababes vs girls aloud - walk this way
[as part of the UK comic relief charity red nose day, mega girl bands (all my favorites!) girls aloud and sugababes have collaborated for the 1st time on the classic aerosmith/run dmc track "walk this way". leading up to the march 17th live event will be a bunch of programs on television including a celebrity version of fame academy, the uk apprentice and also an episode of casualty written by my favorite screenwriter richard curtis. thanks to popjustice for the video heads up!]

ricky gervais red nose day 2007 dvd promo

ali g (aka borat aka sasha baron cohen) conducts the funniest interview with posh and david beckham from red nose day (comic relief 2001)

tracey thorn - it's all true (world premiere)

tracey thorn - it's all true (martin buttrich remix)
[yeaaaahhh! it's FINALLY out! reminds me of the videos that new order used to make... but not really ;) i love how tracey just stands around and sings far far away from the camera. LOVE IT!]

dance bitch dance: camille jones vs fedde le grand - the creeps

camille jones vs fedde le grand - the creeps
[eclectic danish singer gets a more popped up electro remix by fedde le grand. the weird thing is that it's labelled as a 'vs' when it fact fedde was paid to remix the single. oh well... i guess the usage of 'vs' is popular these days... it's working cause the song is playlisted on bbc radio 1]

camille jones - the creeps
[personally i like this original version MUCH better cause it's just darker and moodier than the remix. but hey, if the original wasn't getting any play, then you gotta do what you gotta do]

lily allen - alfie (world premiere)

lily allen - alfie
[what a wacky 4th single for the lily allen camp. the video is pretty funny but... really? PS:xolondon posted this vid at the same time, after checking out my site remember to go to his!]

mariah on the cover of playboy = airbrusher makes a crapload of money.

as you can see, mimi is on the latest cover of playboy magazine doing her best sexy pose. though she doesn't strip down inside, she does answer 20 naughty questions that i'm sure only her hardcore fans will go gaga about. the good news is that also in this issue there are naked teachers for you to oogle over!

oooh it's coming! justin timberlake's new vid is just around the corner

hear good music: anna krantz

anna krantz - sweeter devotion
[i actually like this 1st single alot which is why i've decided to profile this relatively un-edgy new artist to you guys. it does mean i have a twee side, so deal!]

compared as britian's answer to carole king (with a little bit of rickie lee jones thrown in), anna krantz is already playlisted on the highly influential bbc radio 2 and is destined to fall under the same category as the jamie cullums' and katie melua's of the white soul set.

recorded at abbey road studios, the debut album precious time with you, is a perfectly pleasant 1st release for the singer/multi-instrumentalist/songwriter. perfect for that sunday brunch you were planning on hosting. if you want to hear more, check out some sample clips here

live wongie: norah jones

with the quiet worldwide release of her 3rd album not too late, one would think that norah jones is going through a bit of trouble with her career of late (well... it is EMI and the LABEL is having internal drama, but hopefully that won't affect her).

the truth of the matter is, norah's releases are kind of (and should be) treated like fine wine, sounding better with time. big media splashes are kind of wasted because her true fanbase will already be buying the album no matter what she puts out. for future fans, the true approach is one of slow build and in the end, the feeling that you've discovered her in your own time.

so until that happens, these live performances are for the rest of us fans! enjoy!

norah jones - thinking about you (bbc2 live)

norah jones - my dear country (bbc2 live)

norah jones - little room (bbc2 live)

diddy feat keyshia cole - last night (world premiere)

diddy feat keyshia cole - last night (manic edit)
