live wongie: amy winehouse @ bowery ballroom, ny

part of the 'live in london' series (also featuring the unfortunately amateur pipettes) before everyone got shipped off to this years SXSW , amy winehouse made a rare stateside appearance to showcase her just released album back to black. packed to the hilt, most of the attendees were already familiar with amy's music and would lovingly heckle her with song requests in between her taking sips of her drink ("beer? a lady drinks johnny walker and lemonade!", she retorted at one point).

true to her ruffhouse reputation, amy came on stage with her nest of nappy hair and polka dotted 50's dress, cussing and forgetting her lyrics every now and then. but when this lady sings, it's a truly revelatory experience. raw and honest, i haven't seen a performance this wonderfully real in ages (and i wasn't the only person in the room that felt that way. the crowd went crazy before her 1st encore ("sorry it took so long guys, i had to take a wee", she said after a good 5 minute break).

since this was just a showcase, the performance ended within an hour. but damn was it one of the best things i've seen in awhile. i can't wait for her to tour properly.
("it really means alot to me to perform for you guys here in new york. this sure isn't the olive garden," she smiled wickedly...god, i love her!)

two songs in particular made my evening, the current single 'back to black' and amy's cover of the zutons track 'valerie'. i've also thrown in a few gems just cause i'm nice. enjoy!:

amy winehouse - back to black
amy winehouse - love is a losing game (acoustic)
amy winehouse - valerie (zutons cover @ live lounge)
amy winehouse - me and mr jones (fuckery)

amy winehouse - back to black (brits nomination live show)
[god i love this song so much at the moment!]
