WONGIE INDIE SONG OF THE WEEK: perfume genius - queen

perfume genius - queen
by taking ownership of all the negative stereotypes of queer culture, mike hadreas (aka perfume genius) has crafted a raucous psychedelic (both in music and visuals) anthem that just may be the coolest gay song of the year! embracing the queen! long live the queen!

TUESDAY PICKS: editors - a ton of love

editors - a ton of love
as much as i really like this song, it does remind me heavily of the cult. is it an homage to that soulful rock sound? either way it's wonderful to see these guys back!

WONGIE ROCK SONG OF THE WEEK: palma violets - we found love

palma violets - we found love
oh drunken youth! something about these young londoners in how they've managed to capture a sound that is both filled with urgency and sounds sentimental at the same time. so good!

WONGIE DISCOVERY: story books - peregrine

story books - peregrine
[there's something so spacious about the music of this band. taking it's time to tell a musical story, the 6 members of story books do just that, slowly flipping the pages to well drawn ending. it's interesting to experience and can only mean good things for fans of music.]
check out another track from these talented boys below:

WONGIE POP ROCK SONG OF THE WEEK: fun. - some nights

fun. - some nights
[these guys may have recorded one of the best pop rock albums in awhile, with anthem after anthem off their amazing 'some nights' collection. of course you can complain that they are heavily influenced by the sounds of 80's rock bands, but you have to admit they sure do know how to write a tune! easily one my favorite tracks this summer, turn it up!]
