WONGIE VIDEO OF THE WEEK: fka twigs - cellophane
fka twigs - cellophane
after taking more than 4 years off due to health reasons, the incredible FKA twigs returns with her new single "cellophane" which showcases songwriting stripped down and totally vulnerable from what we know of her music. not only that, she took a year to learn how to pole dance because in her mind this video had to look a certain way (enhanced by the genius that is andrew thomas huang). what a wonderful return!!!

WONGIE VIDEO OF THE WEEK: rosalia - de aqui no sales
rosalia - de aqui no sales
what is this magical video directed by diana kunst & mau morgo? no need to fawn over our love of rosalia, but this is pretty darn cool shizz she's giving her fans for 2019!

VIDEO PREMIERE: cardi b - money
cardi b - money
directed by fashion photographer jora frantzis, cardi b's xmas gift is a NSFW masterpiece with powerful nips out women, pole gyrating queens and one breastfeeding diva. it's both shocking and empowering to watch, making it a perfect year end gift for her fans. awesome!

WONGIE VIDEO OF THE WEEK: drake - in my feelings
drake - in my feelings
i'm actually really surprised that drake went and made a video for his #1 viral smash 'in my feelings'. with twitter/instagram filled with videos of the dance challenge, the song went from album track to crossover hit instantly and could have been left at just a collection made by fans of the song. instead, drake did the classy thing (again) with director karena evans by bringing on dj/comedian shiggy (who did the dance in the first place), featuring yung miami of the city girls (jt is currently serving a sentence) and even celebrating big freedia who helped nudge his 'nice for what' into a smash hit. plus we get to see drake do some acting with phylicia rashad and la la anthony! all in all it's a celebration and we love him for it!

WONGIE VIDEO OF THE WEEK: ariana grande - god is a woman
ariana grande - god is a woman
the beautiful images that director dave meyers offers up for ariana's new single is endless! throw in a monologue read by madonna midway and you've got the best video you'll see this week! so good!

WONGIE VIDEO OF THE WEEK: florence + the machine - big god
florence + the machine - big god
i can honestly watch this video by autumn de wilde on loop. between the incredible song by florence, the amazing choreo that she collabs with akram khan (and those other dancers!), this is just a beautiful piece of visual that you can lose yourself into. simple but so powerful at the same time. hence my video of the week.

WONGIE VIDEO OF THE WEEK: lykke li - hard rain
lykke li - hard rain
in the past few weeks lykke li has been very gracious about giving fans album tracks and buzz singles for her upcoming new album (in 7 years!) 'so sad, so sexy'. in keeping with the theme of the title, her new video for 'hard rain' directed by the incredible anton tammi allows us an in depth look at such a tumultuous relationship. the video is also deeply gorgeous and has some fancy camerawork thrown in. definitely press play and get lost!

WONGIE VIDEO OF THE WEEK: childish gambino - this is america
childish gambino - this is america
released just as donald glover went on SNL to be both the host and musical guest, childish gambino's new single (which he also world premiered that night) tackles gun violence and police brutality with the kind of surprise randomness situated next to dancing and celebratory singing. it's shocking to see, but just the kind of video you expect from this creative genius that's having a stellar year both in front and behind the camera.
want more? check out childish gambino performing another new song on saturday night live!

VIDEO OF THE WEEK: drake - nice for what
drake - nice for what
truth of the matter, there isn't enough time to showcase all the fabulous beautiful women (tho where the asian stars at?), but drake's lauren hill 'ex-factor' sampled new track does a good period trying. directed by karena evans the video must have been a logistical miracle to get all the 16 actresses, but the final result of this awesome surprise track is worth a couple of repeat viewings!

WONGIE VIDEO OF THE WEEK: sigrid - raw (live)
sigrid - raw (live)
the simplicity of the video is what is so wonderful about it all. not only does it showcase a new song, but i love the fact that sigrid has the confidence to sing it totally live while doing a walk through in a day of her life. there's a reason why she was chosen as the sound of 2018 by the bbc and this video further cements her as star in the making! love it!

WONGIE POP SONG OF THE WEEK: dua lipa - idgaf
dua lipa - idgaf
after the worldwide popularity of 'new rules' it was a no brainer to bring back director henry scholfield to come up with this dynamic 7th single (!!!) off of dua's debut album. throw in creative team mosaert (paul van haver (aka stromae!) and luc junior tam) dua's latest single comes with yet another creative fun visually catchy number that just adds to the already immediacy of the song itself. LOVE THIS!!!

WONGIE VIDEO OF THE WEEK: jay z feat beyonce - family feud
jay z feat beyonce - family feud
honestly this 8 minute star studded video short with over 20 major stars that have worked/collaborated/or will work with ava duvernay is something to watch in awe. showcasing a future run by women or people of color, the end result might still end in shakespearean tragedy since power can corrupt the best of us. as the song says, 'nobody wins when the family feuds' but boy do we get to watch something epic in return!

NEW ED SHEERAN: ed sheeran - perfect / fuse odg feat ed sheeran & mugeez - boa me
ed sheeran - perfect
i have to be honest, i was not a fan of this song when i first heard it. to me it felt like a 'thinking out loud' knockoff with even more twee lyrics. but you gotta give it up to director jason koenig who manages to take the cheese out and instead gives us a sweet video that shines even brighter with actress zoey deutch as the love interest. ski cabin bookings will go through the roof after watching this video!
fuse odg feat ed sheeran & mugeez - boa me
released on the same day comes this afro-beat jam by fuse odg with our boy ed giving a wonderful hook to the proceedings. it's a fun catchy song that will do wonders for the scene! love it!!
