the fact that we have a new rock gal to admire is something to make note of (there's alot of electronic or folkie indie gals but rock... it's few these days). then mitski miyawaki goes and writes a great kick ass song about not being able to find her 'american' identity due to her bi-racial background and you've got someone with a solid voice that will influence and inspire people (she's already a big tumblr star). i'm new to this gal, but damn, i'm totally into it!

directed by collaborator vincent haycock, flo's high concept 'odyssey' series reaches a pinnacle as her character readies herself for the inevitable disastrous end. it's all in the wild dance choreographed by holly blakey... duh! oh and here's a portrait from the video shoot. just eerie and lovely!

oh yeah, this debut single by liverpudlian quartet clean cut kid is pretty darn darn wonderful. with fuzzy guitars underlying a singalong love song (a duet no less), the track is just the perfect sweet gem that you can still feel cool about post gush (the band has beards and tattoos so back off!) if this is their debut, i can't wait to hear what else they have in store.

nothing but thieves - trip switch
what an instantly catchy single from the UK indie rock band nothing but thieves! sure, there are hooks galore that you've heard before (it's a little bit of muse meets alt-j), but this five piece definitely has a big hit on their hands and you can't fault them for that. on my radar!

oh yeah, this is uber cool!!! by pressing 3 or b on your keyboard, you can check out the three different versions of this song. (jack white is the director of the live action version, james blagden the animated version and brad holland the headbang one). it's all very cool and fun and marks yet another awesome release by the prolific indie rocker.

a bit of pop house for your weekend thanks to UK producer e.n.v and little nikki!


doug locke - #thiscouldbeus
honestly, anything with a # for a song title is something i try to avoid, but the pure poppery of this single by actor/songwriter doug is just catchy enough for me to forget. throw in the touching video and you've got something pretty decent here.


coldplay - true love
though the song is meh, the jonas akerlund video featuring actress jessica lucas and chris martin, is a sweet story about two big spirits just wanting to dance. LET THE PEOPLE DANCE!!


gerard way - no shows
ex my chemical romance frontman gerard way brings his love of 90's britpop as his new sound as a solo artist. setting up his upcoming 'hesitant alien' debut, this is a catchy fun indie rock number that is miles away from his previous glam rock persona. i'm digging this!


haim feat a$ap ferg - my song 5
with a video featuring a slew of guest stars including snl's vanessa bayer, kesha and ezra koenig from vampire weekend, this song is easily the odd man out from their debut album 'days are gone' (they admitted to being inspired by timbaland). i kinda dig it more because of that!


kimbra - miracle
embracing some serious disco here, this joyous new single by kimbra is just pure happiness!


katy b - little red light
released just in time for last weeks notting hill carnival in london, this reggae tinged number is just perfect for the sound stages of the day.


mary lambert - secrets
the voice of last years 'same love' anthem, gets her own catchy poppy singalong single that you'll be humming along to in no time.

probably the most dreamy anthemic number of their diverse repertoire, this current indie hit by BBC just showcases yet another side of their immense talents as songwriters and live performers. love these guys!

produced by danger mouse, this is easily one of the most catchy numbers by the black keys (already a hit on alt radio) with massive crossover potential. teasing their upcoming 'turn blue' album, i'm now kinda excited to hear more!

augustines - nothing to lose but your head
talk about anthem! this song just grabs you by the heart and just shakes you back down from the clouds for a reality check then kicks you flying back out with an enthused energy to take on the world (okay, maybe not that powerful, but the song is kind of brilliant in that way). trimming down their namesake to just the augustines, there are no cut corners with the bigness of this song. just rocking epic!

there's something so wonderfully indie retro about this track! referencing so many styles, somehow the mix totally works, turning it all into an amazing song that deserves repeat listens (did i mention tom's soaring vocals)! with a trippy video directed by the awesome ben wheatley (sightseers, kill list), it's a fan boy explosion really!

the LGC finally release a single with secret weapon faye o'rourke on lead vocals! recently celebrating a #1 album back on their home turf of ireland, the little green cars also continue to charm new fans internationally with their tight harmonies and emotionally mature performances. easily one of my fave bands of 2013, go discover them if you're not already a fan!

with just a glimmer of hope, this indie anthem turns into one of the best songs i've heard in awhile! definitely a highlight from yeah yeah yeahs current album 'mosquito' with a wonderful video by patrick daughter to boot, this is definitely on repeat!

a very candid interesting doc about the making of the latest editors album 'the weight of your love'. recorded in nashville, this album marks the new lineup (with one of the original members asked to leave) and a return to epic rock. take some time to check this out.
