we've been in love with this song since last year and even christened it one of our fave songs of 2017 , but with the release of her new excellent album 'by the way i forgive you' it's nice to see an official video to the anthem! the visuals are pretty simple but emotionally effective, which definitely continues to give continued life to this battle cry of a song. PLAYS with Nadia: Brandi Carlile - The Things I Regret
so we're starting a brand new thing here on wongie's music world in which i asked my music loving buddy nadia to join me on a (hopefully) weekly PLAYS series in which we play each other songs that have been on repeat on our playlists.
of course that doesn't mean i won't still update you with some of the latest music vids and hot tunes, but these PLAYS are just a way to introduce longer term music tracks that are definitely standing the test of time.
kicking off our PLAYS series, nadia gives us an album track from grammy nominated brandi carlile's 'the firewatchers daughter' called "the things i regret" which as you'll see, we do get to do a bit of swooning while listening to the song!
will brandi take away the best americana album award remains to be seen, but hopefully you like what you hear to check out the full album!

the barr brothers - even the darkness has arms
hailing from montreal, this americana quartet have released this beautifully calm gem that just hints at some of the quiet genius of their upcoming album 'sleeping operator'. i'm new to these guys, but they sure have made an impression from the strength of this song!
the common linnets - calm after the storm
firstly the fact that this catchy subdued country folk tune was selected to represent the netherlands in the eurovision song contest is crazy in itself (the competition is known for showy numbers), but then coming in 2nd and quickly making the top 10 in 15 countries is a feat in itself. this proves that a good song just can't be held down in this day and age, and the duo of ilse deLange & waylon are en route to becoming the next civil wars of europe. brilliant!
the civil wars - the one that got away (studio cut)
recorded during a tough period of their artistic collaboration (which they rumored to have broken up), joy williams and john paul white, aka the civil wars, may or may not still be together, but they do have a new album due for release in august. perhaps this dark single is a lovely teaser of what we'll hear from the long player, nevertheless it's pretty dynamic.
the lone bellow - you never need nobody
i think i may have found my fave new alt country, folk, americana band of the year! just listen to the crazy harmonies of Zach Williams, Brian Elmquist and Kanene Pipkin and i dare you to not get some happy chills from their performance! based out of brooklyn, this trio are primed for big things in the coming year. i'm SO looking forward to checking out a gig of theirs in the coming months!

brooklyn based singer songwriter chris mills is looking to release his new (5 years in the making) album, but is asking for fans and fans of good music to invest in it via kickstarter. your donation will allow for final mixing and touring fees that'll allow for chris to come and perform at a city near you, and if this preview song is any indication, it'll be a rousing heartfelt slice of americana that will only sound better live. support this man yo!
