first things first, welcome back the knife!!!! after a 7 year break, swedish duo Olof Dreijer and Karin Dreijer Andersson return with their new album 'shaking the habitual'. but it looks like 7 years on, the duo have dropped their melodic future pop and opted for a full on avant garde existence. with their debut single clocking in at almost 10 mins AND getting gender bending feminist artist marit ostberg on the video tip, you can expect something VERY different when the album comes out in april. not sure if my hook laden ears will appreciate this as much, but for now, i'm willing to go on this journey with them.

though this swedish electro pop outfit offered up their debut very much in the vein of the knife, it's the sick production value that elevates the track into awesome status (heck when the synth keys enter the fore at the end, it's just glorious!) 2013 looks very interesting with these guys preparing to make it cool for us!

[the knife are back! but they return with a strange beautiful opera based on the life of charles darwin. collaborating with the danish opera company, hotel pro forma and electronic acts mt sims and planningtorock; the project 'tomorrow, in a year' had it's world premiere last september to rave reviews. we now get to hear the music behind the opera. it's hypnotic good stuff, but definitely left of center. i can't wait to hear more!]

[the 2005 album continues to crank out hit after hit (this would be the 5th single for the UK market alone!) and with a US release set for later this year, robyn hopefully will translate her success here on our shores. produced by the amazing brother/sister duo the knife, this is easily one of my favorite pop songs of the moment!]

live wongie: the knife (silent shout: an audiovisual experience)

back in april of 2006, the anonymous duo of the knife performed a rare live performance in gothenburg, sweden, in support of their wonderful (and now classic) album silent shout. the concert footage, directed by marius dybwad brandrud, also featured live visuals by andreas nilsson who offered up a brilliant video experience that detracted from the shy, mask wearing siblings.

this week, the re-released special edition of silent shout not only features the original album with their music videos, but this special concert AND the short film 'when i found the knife' (see the shorts below). it's like my birthday came a few days early! (thanks to mtv 2's subterreanean for the tip!)
