mgmt - little dark age
omg after 4 years of going off grid, andrew vanwyngarden & ben goldwasser (aka mgmt) have returned with this retro electro nu-wave jam that is the title track to their upcoming album of the same name. whether this is the direction of the whole album remains to be heard but damn this song is wackadoo awesome! welcome back!!
mura masa feat christine and the queens - second 2 none
after getting it's world premiere on annie mac, mura masa officially released his secret collaboration with the amazing christine and the queens today! in a stroke of genius, the styles of both artists manages to merge seamlessly on this track, easily making it our song of the week! it's SOOOO good people!
the weeknd feat daft punk - starboy
setting up the weeknd 2.0 (he literally snuffs out his previous persona), 'starboy' kicks off a new version of the weeknd with some help from daft punk on electro funkiness. can't wait to see what abel (aka weeknd) has up his sleeve for his new album!
e^st - the alley
with just two tracks under her belt, aussie singer songwriter is getting some premium buzz as a possible indie leaning pop gal with lorde success potential. there's something interesting here, so i'd keep a radar on her in the coming months.
chvrches - leave a trace
[UPDATED with video premiere!]
continuing to release songs for fictitious 80's movie soundtracks, it's the welcome return of chvrches! setting up the release for their 2nd album 'every open eye', this is definitely your perfect late summer jam!
years & years - shine
with their debut album 'communion' right around the corner, the boys of years & years put out a new single after the massive success of their track "king". though this is a more mellow track from their previous releases, it still continues their winning streak as one of the better synth indie pop bands out at the moment. big fan!
years & years - king
i TOTALLY missed out on posting this track back when it was released in january and it has since turned into one of the biggest smashes of the year. not that i wasn't humming along to this song for the past few months, i just never posted it. so as a catch up experience (and for those who aren't already in love with this song) here it is!!
grimes - realiti
um... so if this awesome track is JUST an unreleased demo released for her fans, what will her upcoming ACTUAL releases sound like? damn! shot throughout her asian tour, grimes offers up this gem for all of us to salivate over until the official new songs come out later this year.
purity ring - push pull
it's been two years since purity ring have put out new material and the wait has been totally worth it cause this dreamy indie pop gem is all sorts of awesome! with little info about the upcoming new album, this is a good teaser for all the fans.
apologies for my complete lack of descriptions. i am away for work, but wanted to leave you a mini mix of wonderful songs for you to discover every day this week. press play. see if you like. discover new music. spread the word.
tiga - bugatti
whats your drama? bugatti. i mean sometimes that's all you need in a stripped down electro acid house tune that'll make you happy for the rest of the day.
rac feat matthew koma - cheap sunglasses
with the video premiere, let's officially call this perfect pop song a contender for song of summer 2014. just turn it up and bop happy won't cha!
kiesza - hideaway
canadian electro house diva is in the house (well actually... street)! with her highly catchy single which references all the awesome 90's house tropes, kiesza actually broke her rib shooting this video and well... it still looks like a hoot to shoot. your jam of the week!
ibibio sound machine - let's dance (yak inek unek)
THIS is a band that i'm going to be clamoring to see live! fronted by UK/nigerian singer eno williams, the ibibio sound machine celebrates retro west african sounds (the grooves and trumpet section alone) with some electronic disco making it a party that you'll wanna be a part of all year round! i'm a tad hooked with their debut single and can only imagine the jams forthcoming on their album. yaaay!
chvrches - lies
it's kind of amazing how fast this electro pop trio have risen in the past year! with their catchy songs and cutie lead lauren becoming the obsession of many a hipgal and fanboy, it's great to end the year with the first song that made me buzz for them back in the day. officially their new single, this is chvrches at their best (though the mother we share is still my fave song of their repertoire)
chvrches - it's not right but it's ok (whitney houston cover) (radio rip)
sorry for zane lowe's voice popping up at the end, but this cool cover was ripped off of bbc radio 1 recently. you get the idea of it's awesomeness!
bondax - giving it all
we chilled out to the audio version of this wonderful synth disco anthem a few weeks back, now we do a repeat with the UK duo's official video on release. it's just too good to ignore, just turn it up and boogie down people!
kavinsky feat the weeknd - odd look
sounding like a track off the drive soundtrack, soul genius the weeknd went and done his own remix of the kavinsky song and well... it's crazy awesome! oh this is good!
natalia kills - saturday night (lovelife remix)
we fell in love with this surprisingly honest autobiographical electro pop number recently and now the appreciation continues with this hot remix by lovelife. throwing in some nice new touches, check out this wonderful interpretation for your weekend mix!
cl (from 2ne1) - the baddest female
the debut solo single of cl from the kpop supergroup 2ne1, lee chae-lin aka cl, has always been my favorite member of the quartet (and it seems like i'm not the only one as the video garnered 1 million hits the day of its premiere). it's basically just a groove with some dubstep and unnie dancing thrown in, but damn the video looks good!
chvrches - gun
oh the 80's are SO wonderfully alive here! lets bring back the oversized bolero hats placed on the back of your head while we're at it!!
