WONGIE COUNTRY SONG OF THE WEEK: cam - diane

cam - diane
[UPDATED 2/9: almost 5 months from it's audio release (and making it in our fave songs of last year list) cam FINALLY puts out an official video for her infidelity anthem that still sounds just as exciting and fresh after all these months! hopefully this video release also allows for the song to be a massive hit as well!]

here's what i wrote back in october:
what i've always loved about singer/songwriter cam is that you can hear the wide variety of influences in her music that definitely allows her to straddle various genres and not JUST 'country music'. with 'diane', you can just hear her love of joyous harmonies that made fleetwood mac and indigo girls such favorite singalong bands. what a wonderful song for your weekend (even though it's about a philanderer!)

WONGIE COUNTRY SONG OF THE WEEK: little big town - happy people

little big town - happy people
there's something to be said about watching people smile back at you for 3 mins ;) one of my fave songs off of little big town's 'the breaker' album is also one of my fave songs of the year. it's simple it's sweet and it just brings a joy to me whenever i hear it. have a happy people weekend!!

WONGIE COUNTRY SONG OF THE WEEK: little big town - happy people

little big town - happy people
kicking off their upcoming album 'the breaker', our fave country quartet little big town bring on the songwriting talents of lori mckenna (co-writer of their award winning now classic 'girl crush') and singer/songwriter hailey whitters in this breezy upbeat number that just puts a smile on your face. it's been on repeat and you should do the same! love these guys!

WONGIE COUNTRY SONG OF THE WEEK: kacey musgraves - biscuits

kacey musgraves - biscuits
pretty much a sequel to her smash hit 'follow your arrow', country singer/songwriter kacey musgraves once again gives her fans something catchy and cheeky to sing about. throw in a kooky colorful old skool hee haw of a video and you got our fave country song this week!

WONGIE COUNTRY SONG OF THE WEEK: miranda lambert & carrie underwood - somethin' bad

miranda lambert & carrie underwood - somethin' bad
bringing together two powerhouses of the female country music world wasn't so immediate, according to miranda, carrie took a few days to 'live' with the song before saying yes. thank god the stars aligned cause this is a killer country duet if i've ever heard one. bring on the thelma and louise country style!

WONGIE COUNTRY SONG OF THE WEEK: kacey musgraves - follow your arrow

kacey musgraves - follow your arrow
no wonder this catchy song has turned into an anthem among the cool country kids! kacey has turned her one to watch status into a proper live act that'll only get bigger in 2014. i just LOVE how this song will be the one that'll push her into a new arena!

WONGIE COUNTRY SONG OF THE WEEK: billie joe armstrong & norah jones - long time gone

billie joe armstrong & norah jones - long time gone
nothing like two great voices getting together for a side project (that was literally recorded in 9 days), covering classic country tunes from the everly brothers album 'songs our daddy taught us'. the ease of this retro gem is just dreamy and i can't wait to hear the rest of this collection!

HOT SONG: hunter hayes and jason mraz feat you-tube all stars - everybody's got somebody but me (you-tube mash up)

hunter hayes and jason mraz feat you-tube all stars - everybody's got somebody but me (you-tube mash up)
how cute, bringing together all the you tube singers that have covered this song into hunter's official video is not only a lovely celebration to all these talents, but sets up this country singer/songwriter for some serious deserved crossover potential.

WONGIE COUNTRY SONG OF THE WEEK: little big town - your side of the bed

little big town - your side of the bed
been in love with this song ever since they performed it at the ACM awards last month, but here is the official video and it's just lovely! is this the country duet song of the year? i think it's up there on the list at this point!

WONGIE COUNTRY SONG OF THE WEEK: the band perry - better dig two

the band perry - better dig two
while some other country bands have gone soft and boring after mainstream success (cough...lady antebellum... cough), the perry siblings have upped their songwriting skills and returned with a dark rocky bluegrass number that sounds better and better with each listen. i totally dig southern gothic as a music genre yo, can we make it a thing please?

6 SONGS YOU NEED TO BE OBSESSED WITH NOW: clare bowen and sam palladio - if i didn't know better (nashville soundtrack)

clare bowen and sam palladio - if i didn't know better (nashville soundtrack)
who'd have thought that a civil wars cover at the tail end of a new tv show about nashville would spark a top 10 itunes hit? probably the best thing from the uneven pilot (which you get to see some footage of in the video), this tune just lingers and haunts you for days on end. it's glorious!

WONGIE COUNTRY SONG OF THE WEEK: little big town - pontoon

little big town - pontoon
[oooh! lazing down the stream in your inner tube just got itself a soundtrack! the wonderful little big town have found themselves a major hit on their hands. trust me, you'll be bopping to this for the rest of the summer!]

WONGIE COUNTRY SONG OF THE WEEK: lady antebellum - we owned the night

lady antebellum - we owned the night
[easily my favorite track off their #1 selling album 'own the night'! simple, harmonious and sentimental and rousing at the same time. just perfect!]

VIDEO CATCH UP: pistol annies - hell on heels

pistol annies - hell on heels
[the most down and dirty country song i've heard in ages (and featuring the awesome miranda lambert too)! sugar daddy, these gals are coming for you!]

WONGIE COUNTRY SONG OF THE WEEK: taylor swift - mean

taylor swift - mean
[this was always my fave track off her current album and now she offers up an equally engaging teenage empowerment video. oh taylor! no wonder the tweens love you!]

WONGIE COUNTRY SONG OF THE WEEK: the secret sisters - tennessee me

the secret sisters - tennessee me
[the vintage country duo the secret sisters evoke such an authentic retro sound that influential artists t bone burnett and jack white have already offered their stamp of approval. i'm such a fool for this kind of bygone era country music and hopefully you are too!]
