INDIE AUDIO BUZZ: clean cut kid - make believe

clean cut kid - make believe
we've been circling around clean cut kid since last year and i have to admit that it's taken awhile for the liverpudlian quartet to rotate back into our radar again. already hailed as the hottest record in the world by bbc radio 1's annie mac, the band are back with their lovely fuzzy guitars and infectious harmonies. sometimes it's totally fine connecting with no awkward lags in between!

THIS WEEKS MIX: phoenix vs sleigh bells - chloroform (remix)

phoenix vs sleigh bells - chloroform (remix)
this is more than a remix, it's like a brand new song with hints of the phoenix original hidden somewhere in there. the end result is a brilliant positive track that deserves repeat listens. just awesome!

INDIE AUDIO BUZZ: the vaccines - melody calling

the vaccines - melody calling
whoa! the vaccines have taken a chill pill and released a sunny summery indie pop song! recorded during a recent session in LA, i guess the sun really does wonders for your sound. a new direction of just a one off experiment?

WONGIE INDIE SONG OF THE WEEK: dirty projectors - gun has no trigger

dirty projectors - gun has no trigger
[it's been almost 4 years since we've gone cray-town for the dirty projectors' 'bitte orca', now they are back with a lo-fi sounding james bond-esque theme song and it's pretty darn wonderful! taken off their upcoming 'swing lo magellan', i can't wait to hear more quirky genius from these guys! love this!]

WONGIE INDIE SONG OF THE WEEK: various cruelties - neon truth

various cruelties - neon truth
[various cruelties is actually the alias of liam o'donnell. with interest from heavy radio hitters based on his demos alone, buzz is definitely building around this leeds born frontman. is it just me, but there seems to be a wave of retro rock n roll fronted by soulful lead vocals coming from the UK these days. it's a zeitgeist that i'm definitely happy to follow!]

WONGIE INDIE SONG OF THE WEEK: summer camp - ghost train

summer camp - ghost train
[nothing like a group of anonymous swedes offering up a wistful retro post bygone summer anthem for us to swoon over. the band are extremely secretive, so all we have to go by about them is this lovely ditty. wonderful!]

WONGIE SONG OF THE WEEK: the ruby suns - cranberry

the ruby suns - cranberry
[new zealand is in the house and this time the ruby suns return with a bright quirky gem of a song that mixes afro pop with lite house grooves. you have to hear it to believe it, which is probably why it's wongie's song of the week. brilliant!]

INDIE AUDIO BUZZ: the knife with mt. sims and planningtorock - colouring of pigeons

the knife with mt. sims and planningtorock - colouring of pigeons
[the knife are back! but they return with a strange beautiful opera based on the life of charles darwin. collaborating with the danish opera company, hotel pro forma and electronic acts mt sims and planningtorock; the project 'tomorrow, in a year' had it's world premiere last september to rave reviews. we now get to hear the music behind the opera. it's hypnotic good stuff, but definitely left of center. i can't wait to hear more!]
