WONGIE SONG OF THE WEEK: james vincent mcmorrow - true care

james vincent mcmorrow - true care
calling it some of the best music he's ever made in his career, james vincent mcmorrow gave us a first listen of the title track of his new album that he's releasing on friday. allegedly recorded in a freer atmosphere, james himself says that you'll hear alot of 'mistakes' on the album, but yet he's in love with the imperfections. i'm definitely in love with the first listen! this is just gorgeous!

AUDIO PREMIERE: james vincent mcmorrow - rising water

james vincent mcmorrow - rising water
irish singer songwriter (and wongie favorite) returns with brand new material leading up to his new album 'we move' coming out in the fall. sounding confident and more upbeat, james camped out in toronto to work with the team behind drake and revised his musical approach where his subtle quiver seems to be gone for the time being. basking in the minimal arrangement, there's a joy here that i haven't heard in james' sound before. me likey!!

WONGIE SONG(s) OF THE WEEK: james vincent mcmorrow - you know / look out

james vincent mcmorrow - you know
as part of new tracks for an extended version of his amazing 'post tropical' album, my favorite falsetto in music returns with this chilling gem of a song. with rumored collaborations with dj/producer duke dumont, looks like james is experimenting further and heading into electronic territory, but for now, this is just the way we love him!

WONGIE SONG(s) OF THE MONTH: james vincent mcmorrow - cavalier / red dust

firstly, THAT VOICE! when he rises it to the dulcet falsetto, it turns into something heavenly. then to craft two very different, but just as impactful treasures, is a minor miracle in the making. though james was initially seen as a folkie, it turns out that his true passion lies in soul, and boy is the 1st single "cavalier" one of pure yearning. james' just released follow up "red dust" is both harmonious and dark at the same time (that last note which stretches out til the end is haunting to say the least). both songs are channeled darkly through the eyes of director aoife mcardle (not sure these songs deserve this kind of edge, but this is what james likes) which all in all will be worth your 10 mins of bliss!

WONGIE COVER OF THE WEEK: james vincent mcmorrow - higher love (steve winwood cover)

[yeah... this is darn good! add that to our already growing list of why we love JVM so much!]

WONGIE SONG OF THE WEEK: james vincent mcmorrow - we don't eat

james vincent mcmorrow - we don't eat
[there is such a wealth of amazing songs coming through that i can't NOT love them all! i'm a sucker for slow build songs like this wonderful number from the album Early In The Morning, it's just pure joy to listen to. throw in the fact that we love irishman james already and well... we like to keep our love constant!]

WONGIE SONG OF THE WEEK: james vincent mcmorrow - this old dark machine

james vincent mcmorrow - this old dark machine
[press play and let yourself get washed over by the gentleness of this brilliant song by irish folkster james vincent mcmorrow. interestingly schooled in punk, james decided to take a different musical route after hearing old school tunes by donnie hathaway and crosby stills & nash. the end result is a debut album 'early in the morning' that's already gained accolades via self release in ireland and is poised to become the soundtrack of the season when it gets a proper label output in march. i can't wait to see this guy live!]
