NEW PALOMA FAITH: paloma faith - crybaby / guilty

paloma faith - crybaby
looks like paloma faith's video for 'crybaby' is a kickoff chapter in a series that shows a bleak dystopian world where young men are subjugated to forced masculine norms or they have to pay a fatal price. it definitely seems like a big social commentary undertaking for an artist like paloma, but she calls the source of her new album 'the architect' stories from the world as opposed to her usual tracks about personal heartbreak and love. can't wait to see the follow up video and listen to the rest of the album!
[UPDATE: here is part 2 of the series]

VIDEO PREMIERE: paloma faith - beauty remains

paloma faith - beauty remains
on the eve of her brit awards nomination/performance tonight, UK soul chanteuse paloma faith releases her brand new single as part of the deluxe version of her album 'a perfect contridiction: outsiders edition'. to be honest, i'm not quite sure this is her best work, but the video sure is gorgeous!

WONGIE INDIE DANCE SONG OF THE WEEK: sigma feat paloma faith - changing

sigma feat paloma faith - changing
[UPDATED with the new video!] um... this song is HUGE! following their massive success with their drum'n'bass refix of kanye's jam, sigma are back with an original jam featuring the large vocals of wongie fave paloma faith. the collaboration is sick and will give both acts one of the biggest hits of the year!

VIDEO PREMIERE: paloma faith - trouble with my baby

paloma faith - trouble with my baby
though this is bringing paloma back to the retro 60's soul vibe of her previous work, i still can't shake how amazing her last single was. so by comparison, a tad bit of a let down release if you ask me (though the woman looks amazing!).

WONGIE FM: Best of 2012 #31-40

Best of 2012:
#31-40
When you go about listening to your favorite song of the year, one quickly starts to see the pattern that most of these songs sound like they belong in a post john hughes outsider coming of age/first heartbreak soundtrack for the new decade. Just playing all the songs within this grouping makes me realize that if anyone is looking for a music supervisor of something similar, please look me up!

Besides the cinematic pop epicness of clock opera, niki and the dove, kindness, paloma faith (drama ballad of the year yo!) and even drake feat riri, dance also featured heavily in my 2012 soundtrack with the heartbreaking burns, hypnotic purity ring, new wave-y tanlines and pure poppery of carly rae jepson (her 2nd track "tonight i'm getting over you" is just brilliant and destined to be a massive hit in 2013) all go to tracks. Finally one of my fave breakout acts of 2012 Lianne La Havas offers up 2 gems from her awesome debut. I can't wait to see what this year will bring for this talented singer/songwriter!

More to come yo!

31. Clock Opera – Once and for All / Belongings
32. Kindness – House
33. Burns - Lies
34. Paloma Faith – Picking Up The Pieces
35. Purity Ring – Obedear
36. Niki and the Dove - Tomorrow
37. Tanlines – All Of Me
38. Lianne La Havas – Forget / Is Your Love Big Enough
39. Drake feat Rihanna – Take Care
40. Carly Rae Jepson – Call Me Maybe / Tonight I’m Getting Over You

paloma faith - picking up the pieces
[oh this is good! like get on your knees, sing up to the skies, good! diva in waiting paloma faith returns with a strong kickoff single for her upcoming album 'fall to grace' and hopefully it'll help bring her the crossover recognition that so far seems to have eluded her. we like... we REALLY like!]

CHARITY SINGLE: shane macgowan and friends - i put a spell on you (for haiti)

shane macgowan and friends - i put a spell on you (for haiti)
[what a strange but kind of cool choice for a charity single. shane macgowan (pogues) gathers together a ragtag group of rockers and singers (chrissy hynde, nick cave, the sex pistol's glen matlock, JOHNNY DEPP (?), primal scream's bobby gillespie, newbies paloma faith and eliza doolittle) to cover screamin’ jay hawkins’s classic blues song (i swear at one point it looks like all your drunk uncles have taken over the karaoke machine!). all proceeds go to the dublin based concern worldwide who have been aiding haiti for the past 16 years.]
