sometimes you should just perform a song with nothing but a guitar and your lovely backup vocalists. i haven't really been listening much to sam smith's album, but this version is a nice one for the summer (and it's so nice to see him smiling and just chill).

after falling in love with cautious clay last month, josh has decided to offer a live version of his release 'cold war' and it's AMAZING!!! just press play and get drawn into his brilliant single which ends with a wonderful sax solo (A SAX SOLO!!!). easily my fave act of 2018 so far, hope he gets on your radar too!

battling a bad flu, there were rumors that pink struggled through her final dress rehearsal a few days back. but pink is a monster and she came out strong performing the national anthem in front of the world before the superbowl kicked off (and yes that was a throat lozenges she took out before singing ;)

you can criticize JT all you want about how he didn't bring janet jackson back or even throw in an n'sync gathering, but at the end of it all, the man sure knows how to throw a tight medley party that gets the audience going. plus he makes it look so easy! (loved the prince tribute midway too) all in all, a great job!

as an xmas gift james blake took a break from radio silence (where have you been james?) and recorded a version of his concert cover favorite 'vincent' by don mclean. it's a sparse piano & a mic affair, but it's still and beautiful and brings a big fat awwwww to our hearts. thank you james!

firstly... to have brandi write about you in such a beautiful way is such a gift... then to have her perform for you 'your song' as a solo concert is just an even bigger one! the mother of evangeline is a goddess and we love her even more about sharing her love of her daughter in this song! LOVE it!

at some point in this performance, brandi is almost inhabited by something bigger than herself and transforms into a goddess. it's truly transcendental and it's a real honor to see it captured live like that (no wonder her upcoming tour is sold out already!) as the 1st single from her upcoming album 'by the way, i forgive you', it feels like the singer/songwriter is going for larger sounds and it suits her perfectly. can't wait to hear the rest of the album! goosebumps people!!!

i mean... no need for any explanation here. p!nk is easily one of the best live acts around. why she's singing at the cma awards is beyond me, but hey, she does this ballad proud. sooooo good!

capturing three performances live to tape, director paul thomas anderson offers us a wonderful look at the haim sisters doing what they do best. somehow these songs sound even better than their studio recordings and gives us new appreciation of their songwriting talents. enjoy "right now", "something to tell you" & "nothing's wrong"!

GRAMMYS 2016 HIGHLIGHTS: kendrick lamar, hamilton, stevie wonder + pentatonix, little big town, alabama shakes, lady gaga, taylor swift

though this years grammys clocked in at a solid 3 1/2 hours (!!!), the show managed to get some seriously exceptional performances from the nominees/winners. here are my fave performances of the night (and no, adele's painful mic clanging performance didn't make the cut)


kendrick lamar - the blacker the berry / alright
seriously this is one of the best things i've seen on grammys PERIOD. intense, political and just showcasing the lyrical genius that is kendrick, no wonder he walked away with 4 awards by the end of the night!


hamilton cast - alexander hamilton
the closest thing that most of us will get to seeing hamilton up close and personal (sold out thru the summer yo!!), the show also picked up a grammy soon afterwards!


stevie wonder & pentatonix - that's the way of the world
this awesome vocal moment is what happens when stevie wonder collaborates with the acapella act pentatonix to celebrate the music of earth wind & fire's maurice white. bliss.


little big town - girl crush
i've seen so many excellent live performances of this song, but stripping it down to just strings is pretty darn wonderful. congrats on the 2 grammys btw!

seriously brittany howard is pure vocal goddess. 3 wins. nuff said.


lady gaga + intel - david bowie tribute
gaga's tribute to bowie was also an interesting visual experiment that was at once beautiful to watch and camp extravaganza. which in the spirit of bowie is exactly what he would have enjoyed.


taylor swift - out of the woods
i gotta say our tswift hit some serious notes in this performance and then gave a solid third finger speech to kanye when she picked up the album of the year award. nice one t!


adele - all i ask
ok fine, here is the adele performance that not only started messed up (the mic fell on the piano and made clanging noises) but you can see it jarred her singing until she just decided to sing through the mistake. but yeah, not a great one...

BRIT AWARDS 2015 PERFORMANCES: taylor swift / sam smith / paloma faith / royal blood / george ezra / ed sheeran / madonna

TOTALLY proving that the kids are alright, this years BRIT awards performers were predominantly in their 20's and giving the current state of music a nice taste of something different and original. plus we throw in THAT madonna performance and well... it was a pretty darn good show if you ask me!

brookyln is in the house! fronted by the wonderful duo of jess wolfe and holly laessig, lucius is a retro inspired band that is causing some serious buzz among music fans all over. their current single 'turn it around' is a 60's girl band anthem that just forces you to instantly to fall in love with them. but check out their AMAZING npr tiny desk concert below where they showcase an surprising array of sounds that will blow you away! LOVE these guys!
