LIVE PERFORMANCE: sam smith - baby, you make me crazy (acoustic)

sam smith - baby you make me crazy (acoustic)
sometimes you should just perform a song with nothing but a guitar and your lovely backup vocalists. i haven't really been listening much to sam smith's album, but this version is a nice one for the summer (and it's so nice to see him smiling and just chill).

WONGIE BALLAD OF THE WEEK: lake street dive - i can change

lake street dive - i can change
normally when you hear a lake street dive song, you're expecting an upbeat fun retro jam led by the thick soulful vocal of rachael price. so imagine my surprise listening to their new single 'i can change' from their upcoming album 'free yourself up'. instead of a jazzy four piece number, it's a thoughtful acoustic ballad which strips down their sound to just rachael and a guitar. it's immensely lovely and tells me that the new album will be expanding their talents to incorporate some new sounds. yaaay!

but don't fret, you can still listen to rachael soul out vocally on their album's 1st release 'good kisser':

lake street dive - good kisser (live)

and since we're such big fans, here is the song that introduced me to this glorious posse:

lake street dive - you go down smooth (live)

WONGIE SONG OF THE WEEK: troye sivan - the good side

troye sivan - the good side
are you kidding me? two songs out and troye sivan has already put out two of my fave songs of 2018! this time giving us an acoustic number that is just wonderfully still and present. could this be one of the best albums of the year, we shall see, but troye is making a very good case of it!

WONGIE FOLK SONG(s) OF THE WEEK: lucy rose - end up here / moirai

lucy rose - end up here
recorded during the sessions of her current album 'something's changing', singer/songwriter lucy rose has offered this brand new song that's just lush! totally acoustic, the sparse song allows us to really enjoy lucy's beautiful vocals that has charmed her fans worldwide. what a joy to get this tune today!

want more? check out a live recording of album track 'moirai' that has been playing on repeat since this summer (easily one of my fave songs of the year!)

WONGIE DUET OF THE WEEK: cold war kids feat bishop briggs - so tied up (los feliz blvd)

cold war kids feat bishop briggs - so tied up (los feliz blvd)
re-recording their current single in a more stripped down version, there's something magical watching the amazing bishop briggs work so confidently with nathan willett. the end result is an ACTUAL duet that didn't really exist in the original. love this!

WONGIE CHILL REMIX OF THE WEEK: gavin james - i don't know why (danny avila remix)

gavin james - i don't know why (danny avila remix)
easily one of my fave male vocalist of the past few years, irish singer/songwriter gavin james just brings it in every time with his smooth falsetto. what's also interesting is that every remix of his guitar based tracks work to the point of enhancing from the original. this one from danny avila is no exception, just press play, sit back and kind of swoon away. happy weekend folks!

VIDEO PREMIERE: 2ne1 - goodbye

2ne1 - goodbye
here it is... one of kpop's biggest girl bands releases their final single in the form of this acoustic number which also showcases a threesome instead of the original four. 2ne1 really paved the way for kpop acts breaking international barriers and their brand of sassy multi influenced pop set a blueprint for what pop could sound like (wackadoo awesomeness!) as they venture into solo pursuits, the group itself will be sorely missed.

VIDEO PREMIERE: niall horan - this town (live, 1 mic 1 take performance)

niall horan - this town (live, 1 mic 1 take performance)
with little fanfare, ex-one directioner naill horan released his 1st single with a live performance of 'this town'. co-written by jamie scott, the acoustic version hints at a singer/songwriter path for the debut album. can't wait to hear more in the coming weeks.
