oh my gosh! the return of london grammar is an epic (well as epic as the band can conjure) single that just builds and builds into the kind of musical blissful heartbreak that might just be one of the best songs of the year. throw in the gorgeous layered video by sophie muller and you've got a seriously A-grade release here. damn this is good!

as the countdown to the end of 1D continues, the four piece are slowly putting out soft rock pop anthems that will probably go down in time as timeless singalongs you'll hear on the radio (you scoff now, but this is how i feel). co-written by louis and harry, the video seems like a thrown together lo-fi shoot but is in fact done by big time director sophie muller (really soph? this is throwaway even for you). not the most exciting release, but it still gets me wistful for 1DDay...

what a beautiful video by sophie muller ! the one republic boys release this new single as part of the deluxe edition of their massive 'native' album. staying with the gospel stomp theme, it's a formula that definitely works for them!

director sophie muller offers up another gem of a video throwing robin thicke in a state of creepy happiness (showgirls! vegas! glitter!) while flashing true images of a man drinking himself into this false state of bliss. digging this!

though the song is overly twee and kind of goes nowhere, the visual sentiment between real life couples on a mechanical bull is cute enough for me to watch the whole video til the end (director sophie muller does it again).

premiering last night after their performance on the grammys, this is such a haunting ballad that breaks new ground for our lovely (naked!) riri. much credit has to go for the songwriting skills and beautiful duetting of mikky ekko, but this show really belongs to rihanna. directed by sophie muller, this is just lovely!

[FINALLY, the follow up to the awesome 'great dj' song, which ironically is the song that introduced the ting tings to many folks in the first place. no issue here since 'that's not my name' still gives me happy vibes 5 months after the fact! with their debut album we started nothing coming out in may, 'great dj' being featured as the free song of the week on itunes (starting tomorrow!) AND they provide the song to the new ipod campaign, looks like the ting tings are onto big big tings this summer! (sorry couldn't resist). thanks to zeon for the tip]

[probably the only song from the album it won't be soon before long that i felt any love for. yes the police sample is a factor, but the truth is that it's just plain old solid balladry at work here. sophie muller throws out her simple, yet gorgeous, trademark simple magic yet again and adam levine is still a hottie...sigh! thanks to poolparty and alis blog for the tip]

[easily one of the best pop songs of the summer, this track slowly crept on me over the past few weeks and is now lodged on my ipod repeat. my feelings for sophie ellis bextor has always been a mixed bag since i feel she is only as good as her last single. in this case, i feel like the tune is kind of a pop classic and the fact that video director sophie muller creates yet another batch of interesting images, (retelling a modern day bonnie & clyde story) is pretty all around cool. btw, i've thrown in the equally lovely richmann radio mix for your pleasure!]
