honestly this 8 minute star studded video short with over 20 major stars that have worked/collaborated/or will work with ava duvernay is something to watch in awe. showcasing a future run by women or people of color, the end result might still end in shakespearean tragedy since power can corrupt the best of us. as the song says, 'nobody wins when the family feuds' but boy do we get to watch something epic in return!

no matter how beautiful the scottish backdrop of the video or the epic orchestrations of the song itself, i'm still not sold on a song that repeats it's verse / chorus over and over again and has an air of self importance when there's really nothing there but money pumped into a whole lotta 'meh'. thank goodness harry's follow up track sweet creature is SO much better (listen below)

oh my gosh! the return of london grammar is an epic (well as epic as the band can conjure) single that just builds and builds into the kind of musical blissful heartbreak that might just be one of the best songs of the year. throw in the gorgeous layered video by sophie muller and you've got a seriously A-grade release here. damn this is good!

check out our hozier as he releases this epic ballad for the upcoming big budget action adventure 'the legend of tarzan' starring alexander skarsgard. written in just 3 weeks after seeing a rough cut of the film, hozier roped in collaborators from his debut album to craft this orchestral love song which totally keeps the singer's essence while matching the largeness of the film. until his next album comes out, this definitely is a wonderful in-between piece for us fans.

yet another epic xmas gift for music fans! radiohead decided to offer up their rejected james bond single for free on xmas day! epic yet totally internal, i understand why the 007 folks opted for sam smith's horrible bombastic version instead. but what a lovely tune to get lost in! 007's loss is our gain. happy xmas!!

with the YA film adaptation of 'divergent' currently holding it's #1 spot on the box office, there's alot of pressure for everything around the film to also succeed. so it's really nice that they've chosen our gal ellie to jump start the soundtrack (she also has two more songs on it!) though the lyrics are ahem... a bit schoolgirl... the song is a fine epic-lite number that will appease the fans or both the book and ellie.

re-recorded to add bloc party lead singer kele okereke vocals into the gorgeous hypnotic track, vv brown offers up her 3rd single from the haunting 'samson & delilah' album and it's kind of wonderful. there's something powerfully epic here even with the electronic dance undertones. just awesome!

augustines - nothing to lose but your head
talk about anthem! this song just grabs you by the heart and just shakes you back down from the clouds for a reality check then kicks you flying back out with an enthused energy to take on the world (okay, maybe not that powerful, but the song is kind of brilliant in that way). trimming down their namesake to just the augustines, there are no cut corners with the bigness of this song. just rocking epic!
