VIDEO PREMIERE: harry styles - sign of the times

harry styles - sign of the times
no matter how beautiful the scottish backdrop of the video or the epic orchestrations of the song itself, i'm still not sold on a song that repeats it's verse / chorus over and over again and has an air of self importance when there's really nothing there but money pumped into a whole lotta 'meh'. thank goodness harry's follow up track sweet creature is SO much better (listen below)

harry styles - sweet creature

VIDEO PREMIERE: niall horan - this town (live, 1 mic 1 take performance)

niall horan - this town (live, 1 mic 1 take performance)
with little fanfare, ex-one directioner naill horan released his 1st single with a live performance of 'this town'. co-written by jamie scott, the acoustic version hints at a singer/songwriter path for the debut album. can't wait to hear more in the coming weeks.

VIDEO PREMIERE: zayn - iT's YoU

zayn - iT's YoU
this hypnotic track is quite a promising tease into zayn's upcoming debut 'mind of mine'. sounding quite frank ocean-y, i'm actually quite curious to hear more from the ex-boy bander. might this be a proper album?

SONG PREMIERE: zayn - it's you (live @ the tonight show starring jimmy fallon)

zayn - it's you (live @ the tonight show starring jimmy fallon)
i gotta say that zayn is definitely not taking the easy route with his debut album 'mind of mine'. world premiering the album cut "it's you" on jimmy fallon last night, zayn not only killed the vocals (kind of flawless yo!) but introduced a song that is both complex and dreamy at the same time. might need a few listens to decide if i like the song, but for sheer interesting factor, it's definitely not throwaway pop. i'm curiously intrigued on what else he has in store now.

VIDEO PREMIERE: zayn - pillowtalk

zayn - pillowtalk
while 1D release a not so veiled single about lack of bro-hood history (more on that in another post), zayn malik has left his boy band past behind to reboot our appreciation towards his new more dirty and raw sound (his words not mine). featuring gigi hadid, this is a pretty decent 1st release for the singer setting up what could be a solid debut in the form of the album 'mind of mine'. nice one!

NEW ONE DIRECTION!: one direction - perfect

one direction - perfect
as the countdown to the end of 1D continues, the four piece are slowly putting out soft rock pop anthems that will probably go down in time as timeless singalongs you'll hear on the radio (you scoff now, but this is how i feel). co-written by louis and harry, the video seems like a thrown together lo-fi shoot but is in fact done by big time director sophie muller (really soph? this is throwaway even for you). not the most exciting release, but it still gets me wistful for 1DDay...

NEW ONE DIRECTION: one direction - drag me down

one direction - drag me down
the curious thing about the new one direction single isn't the fact that it's post zayn, or the fact that it pretty much was released out of the blue. the real curious thing is that there is NO way in heck that these boys would pass the first round of tests to even get close to a space program. not dissing them, just the fact that 90% of any of us won't be able to either. just saying...

AUDIO LEAK: naughty boy feat zayn malik - i won't mind

naughty boy feat zayn malik - i won't mind
with this demo taken off the internet a few hours after it was posted, producer naughty boy seems to have fanned the flames between one direction fans and their thoughts on ex-member zayn malik recording solo material. the song itself is definitely a raw but surprisingly mature track. could this be the direction zayn will be going into?

HAPPY HOLIDAYS: jimmy fallon, one direction & the roots - santa claus is coming to town (classroom instruments version)

jimmy fallon, one direction & the roots - santa claus is coming to town (classroom instruments version)
happy holidays from me and these boys!

WONGIE POP BALLAD OF THE WEEK: one direction - night changes

one direction - night changes
written by all the boys (along with jamie scott, julian bunetta and john ryan), this surprisingly gentle ballad is so not what you'd expect from 1D! which is probably why i kind of love it so!

VIDEO PREMIERE: one direction - steal my girl

one direction - steal my girl
it's kind of amazing that the biggest boy band in the world is making pop songs that dads will probably go for these days. co-written by liam and louis, this is the official first single kicking off the upcoming 'four' album and it's perfectly fine!

VIDEO PREMIERE!: one direction - you & i

one direction - you & i
the slow move into pop balladeers continues with the latest single by one direction! somewhere a tween girl (or boy) has popped a tear listing to this song. bless!

NEW MIX: one direction - midnight memories

one direction - midnight memories
continuing their tradition of insta catchy stadium singalong tunes, the 1D boys offer up this pop rock number. if only they had a 'radio ga ga' like clap then they'd be set for life!

WEEKEND COVERS: katy b - story of my life (one direction cover)

katy b - story of my life (one direction cover) (live @ in:demand)
yeah still one of the better pop ballads of last year!

AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS 2013 HIGHLIGHTS: ariana grande - tattooed heart / lady gaga & r kelly - do what you want / one direction - the story of my life / miley cyrus - wrecking ball / katy perry - unconditionally

ariana grande - tattooed heart
nothing like a killer performance that pretty much blew everyone out of the water with it's simplicity. wait... just singing? no wonder she got a standing o from the whole audience and won best new artist later that evening.

lady gaga & r kelly - do what you want
oh the theatrics! as usual the totally performance perfect gaga continues to prove to me that she needs a broadway show in the future. i'm just saying...

one direction - the story of my life
yeah... i'm smitten with this song...

miley cyrus - wrecking ball
meow! is it wrong that i was interested in the cat behind her?

katy perry - unconditionally
great spectacle... meh vocals!

POP MIX: one direction - the story of my life

one direction - the story of my life
it is by far, the best song that the 1d boys have ever put out and hopefully a nice segway into better songs for the future.

WONGIE FOLK POP SONG OF THE WEEK: one direction - story of my life

one direction - story of my life
what a wonderfully great folk inspired pop number from 1d! co-written by ed drewett, jamie scott AND 1D themselves, this is probably their most mature release and it's just a solid fall ballad for the cooling climes. kind of love this!

VIDEO PREMIERE: rebecca ferguson - i hope

rebecca ferguson - i hope
class act rebecca ferguson returns with the wonderful 1st single off her upcoming sophomore album 'freedom'. though many are speculating that the song is about her ex zayn malik from 1D, the real story should be how haunting (with a tinge of sadness) her voice can be; perfect for a song like this!

LIVE PERFORMANCE: one direction - best song ever (live @ america's got talent)

one direction - best song ever (live @ america's got talent)
so um... after watching their 3D movie... i might be a full fledged directioner at this point. ugh!!!

VIDEO PREMIERE!: one direction - best song ever

one direction - best song ever
in anticipation of their upcoming 3D concert movie 'this is us', the boys release this wacky video where they all exercise their acting chops to pretty good results. not really the best song ever, but a fun video still!
PS:
i honestly, i can't get over how pretty zayn looks!
