NEW JESSIE WARE!: jessie ware - alone

jessie ware - alone
as the 3rd single from her upcoming album 'glasshouse', this ballad just feels like the perfect closing credits to a rom-com/feel good movie! between the retro 80's jam, spanish styled pop and now this, i'm VERY curious about the different sounds the upcoming album will produce. so far... so good!

PLAYS with Nadia: David Lang feat Sumi Jo - Simple Song #3 (Youth Soundtrack)
nadia is back again with her PLAYS for the week and this time she looks at one of the nominees from the Oscar nominated best original song category "Simple Song #3" from the paolo sorrentino film 'Youth'.

though you can hear us pontificate about our personal thoughts about the movie (and also get a glimpse of what we talk about during our day jobs as film journalists), we are both in agreement that director sorrentino loves music and art as much as we do, hence our appreciation for a song like this.

the song is up against some heavy hitters, but it sure does make us swoon the easiest!

like what you hear? check out the song in full below and remember to keep checking in on fridays for our weekly PLAYS session!

JUST AWESOME: radiohead - spectre

radiohead - spectre
yet another epic xmas gift for music fans! radiohead decided to offer up their rejected james bond single for free on xmas day! epic yet totally internal, i understand why the 007 folks opted for sam smith's horrible bombastic version instead. but what a lovely tune to get lost in! 007's loss is our gain. happy xmas!!

HOT SOUNDTRACK: sia - salted wound (OST fifty shades of grey)

sia - salted wound (OST fifty shades of grey)

birdy - not about angels (the fault in our stars OST)
though we JUST posted a birdy track two days ago from the same soundtrack, it's this beautiful ballad that we loved back in april that we are still obsessed about. written especially for the soundtrack, the sad but hopeful ballad is kind of perfect for both the film and repeat listens.

lana del rey - once upon a dream (maleficent ost)
though the song has been out just a day, a fan (by the name of d1etpussy) has either shot or found art school footage to match this haunting theme song to the upcoming disney feature. either way, it's pretty cool and deserves a watch.

speaking of the film maleficent, lead actress angelina jolie handpicked lana del rey to bring her haunting vocals to this classic 'sleeping beauty' cover. check out the song which world premiered in the official trailer below:

oscar isaac & marcus mumford - fare thee well (dink's song) (inside llewyn davis OST)
covering this irish folk classic for the upcoming AMAZING soundtrack of the coen brothers film 'inside llewyn davis', oscar isaac (who plays the titular role of the down on his luck folk singer llewyn davis) duets with marcus mumford (who also helped with the t bone burnett soundtrack) to wonderful results. easily my fave soundtrack of the year, i can't wait to pass on other gems when they come to light. brilliant stuff here.

THIS WEEKS MIX: sia feat the weeknd & diplo - elastic heart

sia feat the weeknd & diplo - elastic heart
taken off the upcoming hunger games soundtrack, this is a dynamic piece of epic singing mixed in with the crazy beats of diplo. what could have been a hot mess is instead this amazing merging of talent that pushes the boundary of what is considered pop these days. great stuff.
