VIDEO PREMIERE: lady gaga - stupid love

A STAR IS BORN OST: lady gaga & bradley cooper - shallow / look what i've found

[10/9 new video!!!] lady gaga - look what i've found
if you're not already listening to the soundtrack that came out over the weekend, then this is a good track to give you an idea of the different kinds of sounds our girl 'ally' will be performing in the film. channeling some carole king, this is a fun jam that actually sounds better and better a few times played over. yeah... i'm a fan.

lady gaga & bradley cooper - shallow (a star is born OST)
for those of us fortunate enough to see a star is born already, the experience of watching these two perform on stage for the first time is a naturally tear inducing moment that kicks off their adventure/tragedy ahead. so FINALLY getting to hear 'shallow' again is not only a beautiful thing, but it reminds me how much i loved this film (which all of you will get to see oct 5th!!) goosebumps!

AUDIO PREMIERE: lady gaga - the cure

lady gaga - the cure
over the weekend lady gaga offered her fans a surprising new single in the form of the uber poppy 'the cure'. to be honest, the track sounds like a soundtrack demo that never got picked up, but hey, it's still catchy as heck and a lovely surprise! don't expect this to be part of a pop makeover for gaga, this feels like a one off.

VIDEO PREMIERE: lady gaga - john wayne

lady gaga - john wayne
still riding high off her successful superbowl performance lady gaga surprised her fans with a brand new video for the single 'john wayne'. directed by the amazing jonas akerlund, the hyper kinetic video kicks into crazy grindhouse meets tim burton on acid levels by the end. it's fun, it's twisted and it makes for one of the best videos gaga has ever put out!

LADY GAGA SUPERBOWL HALFTIME SHOW

LADY GAGA SUPERBOWL HALFTIME SHOW
as promised lady gaga gave a pretty political free but energy packed performance of her greatest hits at this years superbowl halftime show. in 13 mins she managed to pack in 7 numbers starting off with 'god bless america / this land is your land' on the rooftop of the houston nrg stadium.
the setlist is as follows:
this land is your land / god bless america
edge of glory
poker face
born this way
telephone
just dance
million reasons
bad romance

VIDEO PREMIERE: lady gaga - perfect illusion

lady gaga - perfect illusion
i'm definitely on the 'meh' side of appreciation for this song, but there is something so captivating about lady gaga finding her euphoria that i can only hope that other tracks from the upcoming 'joanne' will match my curiosity. co-produced by mark ronson, kevin parker (tame impala) and bloodpop, the repetitive glam of this track just feels too underproduced for my tastes (plus the chorus is repetitive), can't wait to hear what's next please!

GRAMMYS 2016 HIGHLIGHTS: kendrick lamar, hamilton, stevie wonder + pentatonix, little big town, alabama shakes, lady gaga, taylor swift

though this years grammys clocked in at a solid 3 1/2 hours (!!!), the show managed to get some seriously exceptional performances from the nominees/winners. here are my fave performances of the night (and no, adele's painful mic clanging performance didn't make the cut)

kendrick lamar - the blacker the berry / alright
seriously this is one of the best things i've seen on grammys PERIOD. intense, political and just showcasing the lyrical genius that is kendrick, no wonder he walked away with 4 awards by the end of the night!

hamilton cast - alexander hamilton
the closest thing that most of us will get to seeing hamilton up close and personal (sold out thru the summer yo!!), the show also picked up a grammy soon afterwards!

stevie wonder & pentatonix - that's the way of the world
this awesome vocal moment is what happens when stevie wonder collaborates with the acapella act pentatonix to celebrate the music of earth wind & fire's maurice white. bliss.

little big town - girl crush
i've seen so many excellent live performances of this song, but stripping it down to just strings is pretty darn wonderful. congrats on the 2 grammys btw!

alabama shakes - don't wanna fight
seriously brittany howard is pure vocal goddess. 3 wins. nuff said.

lady gaga + intel - david bowie tribute
gaga's tribute to bowie was also an interesting visual experiment that was at once beautiful to watch and camp extravaganza. which in the spirit of bowie is exactly what he would have enjoyed.

taylor swift - out of the woods
i gotta say our tswift hit some serious notes in this performance and then gave a solid third finger speech to kanye when she picked up the album of the year award. nice one t!

adele - all i ask
ok fine, here is the adele performance that not only started messed up (the mic fell on the piano and made clanging noises) but you can see it jarred her singing until she just decided to sing through the mistake. but yeah, not a great one...

NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL LIVE: lady gaga - the sound of music tribute (live @ the oscars)

lady gaga - the sound of music tribute (live @ the oscars)
what a performance! i've never heard lady gaga sing with her head voice and now i know it's pretty darn incredible. between the jazz album and now this wonderful tribute to the sound of music, i am back in love with gaga these days!

WONGIE COVER OF THE WEEK: lady gaga - bang bang (my baby shot me down) (tony bennett & lady gaga: cheek to cheek live)

lady gaga - bang bang (my baby shot me down) (tony bennett & lady gaga: cheek to cheek live)
recorded at the jazz at lincoln center stage, this classic piece (originally recorded by cher!) gives our gaga the perfect vehicle to express her wonderful vocals. i've always felt that there was a jazz album in her career and this #1 collaboration with tony bennett is a great start.

VIDEO PREMIERE!: tony bennett & lady gaga - anything goes

tony bennett & lady gaga - anything goes
a full on jazz standards album was always the route that i felt gaga should embrace as part of her musical portfolio. so it really is a joy to see her release this joint album of cole porter classics with the lovely tony bennett. they really do make a wonderful pair!

VIDEO PREMIERE: lady gaga - g.u.y.

lady gaga - g.u.y.
it's almost 12 mins (though the last 4 mins are just credits), features snippets of 3 other songs, guest stars some real housewives of beverly hills and sees director lady gaga channelling some serious donatella versace (gaga is her muse) from beginning to end. it's all very OTT and beautiful to look at... but the song (like everything on the album) i've heard a few times and i still can't hum it back.

YEAR END MASHUP!: dj earworm - united state of pop 2013

dj earworm - united state of pop 2013
it's that time of the year again when dj earworm pulls together the biggest pop hits of 2013 and miraculously mashes them all together. interestingly the general tone feels alot more internal than previous collections. maybe we had a more diverse number of hits this year, which allowed for a different pace. still a joy to experience!

SATURDAY MIX: lady gaga feat kermit the frog - gypsy (muppet holiday spectacular)

lady gaga feat kermit the frog - gypsy (muppet holiday spectacular)
a highlight from the all over the place gaga/muppet thanksgiving collaboration. the song is 80's synth rocktacular (until the song stupidly starts listing cities that gaga's visited in the past) plus kermie's harmony is pretty darn bad ass too!

RECORD STORE DAY: the civil wars - behind the bars (elliot smith cover) / foals - bad habit (cctv) / nick lowe - i was born in bethlehem / queens of the stone age - i sat by the ocean / u2 - ordinary love / lana del rey - born to die / lady gaga - applause (empire of the sun remix) / sondre lerche - rejection #5

with people clamoring to buy stuff during black friday, the record store day folks have also decided that today would be a great day to celebrate independent record stores around the world via sales of one off special pressings on vinyl. though i'm a smidgen behind on this, it's still not too late to visit your local record store over the weekend to see if there's any good stuff left! check out some highlights of what you could find below:

AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS 2013 HIGHLIGHTS: ariana grande - tattooed heart / lady gaga & r kelly - do what you want / one direction - the story of my life / miley cyrus - wrecking ball / katy perry - unconditionally

ariana grande - tattooed heart
nothing like a killer performance that pretty much blew everyone out of the water with it's simplicity. wait... just singing? no wonder she got a standing o from the whole audience and won best new artist later that evening.

lady gaga & r kelly - do what you want
oh the theatrics! as usual the totally performance perfect gaga continues to prove to me that she needs a broadway show in the future. i'm just saying...

one direction - the story of my life
yeah... i'm smitten with this song...

miley cyrus - wrecking ball
meow! is it wrong that i was interested in the cat behind her?

katy perry - unconditionally
great spectacle... meh vocals!

LIVE PERFORMANCE: lady gaga - venus & do what u want (live @ xfactor uk) / venus (audio premiere)

lady gaga - venus & do what u want (live @ xfactor uk)
gaga went on xfactor uk on sunday night and world premiered her self penned/self produced kooky track 'venus' to the world. though i'm not too crazy about the song, i am VERY crazy about the level of energy and skill the woman puts into her live performances. while watching her do her current single 'do what u want', i realized that NONE of the current pop divas can command the stage completely alone. so for that feat alone, gaga is the queen.

wanna hear what the studio version of the song sounds like?:

lady gaga - venus

AUDIO PREMIERE: lady gaga feat r kelly - do what u want

lady gaga feat r kelly - do what u want
what a highly commercial r&b pop song! though it's not the official 2nd single off the artpop album, it does give you a peek into the diversity of sounds that gaga has in store for you. call me intrigued.

WEEKEND MIX: lady gaga - aura (lyric video) (machete kills ost)

lady gaga - aura (lyric video) (machete kills ost)
nothing like pairing gaga's latest single with the campy clips of the upcoming b-movie machete kills. it also marks gaga's big screen acting debut for director robert rodriguez and well... just see what kind of silly mayhem everyone gets to in this clip above!

LIVE PERFORMANCE: lady gaga - #swinefest (live @ itunes festival)
