THE SOUND OF BAD: mariah carey - infinity

mariah carey - infinity
jeez... all the stuff that the press release will no doubt champion (she showcases her vocal range! did you hear that last note! mariah's back with her signature style! the production is massive!) is literally the stuff that bugs me about her these days. it took 5 people to "craft" this song and in the end it's just bad rhymes, overproduced music, shrill trills and references to things i could care less about. just sing a song with no frills already... THAT'S the mariah we want back!

VIDEO PREMIERE: mariah carey - you're mine (eternal)

mariah carey - you're mine (eternal)
almost 2 years in the making, mariah seems finally ready to put out official singles for her upcoming album 'the art of letting go' (scheduled for a may release). produced by rodney jerkins, the single has an after taste of "we belong together", but also throws in some electronic grooves into the mix. it's not groundbreaking, but it's a nice gesture towards the right direction.

MONDAY MIX: ariana grande - baby i

ariana grande - baby i
pop princess ariana is running a carefully plotted rise to the top. with her #1 selling debut album 'yours truly' just released and her wonderfully mariah-esque singles played everywhere, we are not even close to the massive success this girl will experience in the coming year.

still not sold? check out this funny appearance on jimmy fallon our gal ariana did last week!

POP GAL: mariah carey feat miguel - #beautiful

mariah carey feat miguel - #beautiful
ok it's too easy to nitpick this song (a hashtag.. really?), so i'll just leave the comments to the fact that it's a smart move to collaborate with the wonderful miguel and the retro soul sound befits mc and her return to the charts. sadly the song just feels kind of meandering by the end, which is unfortunate since it starts off so strongly.

WONGIE POP SONG OF THE WEEK: ariana grande feat mac miller - the way

ariana grande feat mac miller - the way
whoa, with just a week out, this mariah carey inspired number by nickelodean star ariana grande has already amassed 8 million hits on youtube AND a top 10 debut by a female solo artist on the billboard hot 100 (a feat which hasn't happened since 2009)! with an album influenced by motown mashed with modern twists, ariana is definitely an pop act to watch out for the coming months!

THE SOUND OF BAD: mariah carey - almost home

mariah carey - almost home
geez... has it come to this for mimi? a sub-standard non-song that feels like it has nothing to do with mariah, instead it's more like she was just hanging out that day in the studio and they asked her to fill in.  like the movie 'oz the great and powerful', it's belch...

LETS GO VIRAL(XMAS STYLE!): jimmy fallon, mariah carey & the roots - all i want for christmas is you

jimmy fallon, mariah carey & the roots - all i want for christmas is you
yeah... kind of awesome... happy pre xmas yo!

VIDEO PREMIERE!: mariah carey feat rick ross and meek mill - triumphant (get em')

mariah carey feat rick ross and meek mills - triumphant
um... why does it feel like it's a 'feat mariah carey' kind of song instead? how she can use this meh song as a launch for a new album is also a strange decision, but maybe there's a method to this madness?

WONGIE XMAS 2010: mariah carey feat patricia carey - o come all ye faithful

mariah carey feat patricia carey - o come all ye faithful
[always sweet to watch a child sing with their parent, but if you're mariah, you come back and oversing the rest of the song til mom's vocals are virtually obliterated. oh xmas spirit... ]

[i'm not quite sure what her press tour has to do with the memory of her late father, but somehow mimi has figured out a way to also incorporate her current boyfriend nick cannon (and possibly their honeymoon) into the procedings. thank goodness the video switches mode halfway through and gives props to those who passed on in mariah's life with a flickr-like photo album. wtf?]

reeeeemix: mariah carey - touch my body (matt price remix)

mariah carey - touch my body (matt price remix) [link 2]
[what a surprise when i recieved this hot remix from dj matt price today in my inbox. add to that, matt went ahead and edited his track to the cute haruki murakami LV promotional video. so from my inbox to yours, enjoy!]

mariah carey feat fatman scoop - touch my body (dj zax can't touch it mix) [link 2]
[who knew that the return of mariah carey would include kenneth the page (jack mcbrayer) from 30 rock? bringing MC to the nerd world is a minor stroke of genius and i'm sure director brett ratner is patting himself on the back by convincing her to shoot it this way. i have to say that miss C is sure looking good! speaking of good check out this mash-up gem of this song by DJ Zax that i'm digging alot these days.]

mariah on the cover of playboy = airbrusher makes a crapload of money.

as you can see, mimi is on the latest cover of playboy magazine doing her best sexy pose. though she doesn't strip down inside, she does answer 20 naughty questions that i'm sure only her hardcore fans will go gaga about. the good news is that also in this issue there are naked teachers for you to oogle over!
