with his new album gemini out the same day as the release of this excellent single with kesha, the one two punch is a nice change since it feels like it's been ages since we've had a good track from the seattle based rapper. though there was some backlash from his last release with ryan lewis, the rapper doesn't seem to be taking himself as seriously now and we are back to the days of catchy tunes mixed with insta-hooks. working with kesha is a smart move too! nice one this!

holy land of the wackadoo! the return of macklemore & ryan lewis (who i can't seem to see anywhere in this video, but then again, he was probably busy co-directing this amazing video) features crazy set pieces (with mopeds), respect to the likes of 80's rappers kool moe dee, melle mel and grandmaster caz, some serious dance moves, an insane vocal from glam rocker eric nally and a massive finale that feels like it should be a broadway number instead. oh yes, it's all these things and more! turns out we were missing macklemore & ryan lewis all along, welcome back you awesome weirdos!!!

i don't think i've commented about this seattle rapper on this blog (even though 'thrift shop' landed in my year end guilty pleasure list), but ben haggerty (aka macklemore) and his partner ryan lewis released one of the most musically commercial and lyrically diverse albums of last year. in the case of their latest single, the sound is truly joyous! throw in their perfectly curated visual creativity and wacky dress sense, and you've got a definite smash for the season.
