directed by fashion photographer jora frantzis, cardi b's xmas gift is a NSFW masterpiece with powerful nips out women, pole gyrating queens and one breastfeeding diva. it's both shocking and empowering to watch, making it a perfect year end gift for her fans. awesome!

the carters - apeshit
surprise releasing their joint album 'everything is love' under 'the carters', beyonce and jay z not only take over the louvre in their video, but they offer some juicy lyrics that cover all the talk around their relationship, avoiding spotify, losing at the grammys and more. of course to hear their new album, you have to listen on tidal, so get joining!

WONGIE HIP HOP SONG(s) OF THE WEEK: nicki minaj - barbie tingz / chun li
nicki minaj - barbie tingz
nicki minaj - chun li
it's here! FINALLY we get to see the two videos accompanying nicki minaj's excellent releases! with 'barbie tingz' nicki collaborates with creative giovanni bianco to make a sparse but colorful piece that matches the sass of her retro celebratory jam. on 'chun-li' superstar photographer steven klein takes the reins and gives us some of his seriously kick ass vision. they're both fun to watch and gives us the nicki that we've been hankering for quite some time!

VIDEO OF THE WEEK: drake - nice for what
drake - nice for what
truth of the matter, there isn't enough time to showcase all the fabulous beautiful women (tho where the asian stars at?), but drake's lauren hill 'ex-factor' sampled new track does a good period trying. directed by karena evans the video must have been a logistical miracle to get all the 16 actresses, but the final result of this awesome surprise track is worth a couple of repeat viewings!

WONGIE VIDEO OF THE WEEK: jay z feat beyonce - family feud
jay z feat beyonce - family feud
honestly this 8 minute star studded video short with over 20 major stars that have worked/collaborated/or will work with ava duvernay is something to watch in awe. showcasing a future run by women or people of color, the end result might still end in shakespearean tragedy since power can corrupt the best of us. as the song says, 'nobody wins when the family feuds' but boy do we get to watch something epic in return!

WONGIE SONG OF THE WEEK: n.e.r.d. & rihanna - lemon
n.e.r.d. & rihanna - lemon
when rihanna asks to shear your head, you not only say 'hell yea' but you do the coolest freestyle dance to it too! part of pharrell's 'the baes' dance squad, the gorgeous mette towley becomes an instant star as she boogie downs to the return of n.e.r.d. and kicks off the lemon tutorial by freeing herself getting her locks cut. gosh i can watch this over and over again!

WONGIE POP SONG OF THE WEEK: macklemore feat kesha - good old days
macklemore feat kesha - good old days
with his new album gemini out the same day as the release of this excellent single with kesha, the one two punch is a nice change since it feels like it's been ages since we've had a good track from the seattle based rapper. though there was some backlash from his last release with ryan lewis, the rapper doesn't seem to be taking himself as seriously now and we are back to the days of catchy tunes mixed with insta-hooks. working with kesha is a smart move too! nice one this!

WONGIE VIDEO OF THE WEEK: kendrick lamar - element.
kendrick lamar - element.
once again kendrick offers up striking visuals about the expectations surrounding what is needed in order to be as a 'black man' (through violence, as a collective, as a child). co-directed by the little homies and the amazing jonas lindstroem, these haunting visuals will stay with you for some time. what a strong video for an awesome song!
