honestly this 8 minute star studded video short with over 20 major stars that have worked/collaborated/or will work with ava duvernay is something to watch in awe. showcasing a future run by women or people of color, the end result might still end in shakespearean tragedy since power can corrupt the best of us. as the song says, 'nobody wins when the family feuds' but boy do we get to watch something epic in return!

in one fell swoop drake released two new singles hyping up his upcoming album 'views from the 6' coming out later this month. the one i'm feeling is the dancehall tinged track that samples kyla's "do you mind" which i hope will generate another awesome drake dad dancing video. following that single's release, drake offered up another track featuring a pairing simply called the throne (aka kanye & jay z). just enough serious hype for all his fans. i'm SUPER excited to hear more of this album now!

with a list of mentors like kanye west and jay z who are more than keen to help this newbie rapper, travis scott is coming into the rap scene with some serious buzz behind him. throw in the fact that his current single 'antidote' is crazy hypnotic (with killer lyrics to boost) and you've got yourself one to watch for the rest of 2015 and beyond. hot damn this song is cool!

breaking all records of first week sales on itunes (600,000 and counting!) beyonce's surprise release has been stumping her fans with the progressive future soul nature of her album, but easily 'xo' is the most commercially viable single off the collection. co-written by ryan tedder ("halo"), there's something so empowering and wonderfully 'end credits' about this track. easily my fave!

almost a total 180 comes this structurally loose jam featuring bey's husband jay z. what is amazing on this number is the total sense of joy that just penetrates the gansta grooves. takes a few listens, but i'm digging!

released to a million samsung subscribers before the album officially drops next week, jay z returns with a brand new collection of songs focusing on his crazy life, fatherhood and the world we're in today (pop culture references are all over the place!) on first listen, there aren't that many radio friendly hits, but a jay z album is still an event and here are what i feel are the highlights:

tumblr / twitter reference on one of the catchiest numbers on the album! throw in the fact that it's quite humorous and you've got an instant fan favorite for the masses!

mrs carter makes her anticipated appearance on hubby's album and it's lovely! sounding more mature, i love hearing this lower registered bey especially when she's not over-singing. nice one this!


jay z feat justin timberlake - holy grail
JT is like jay z's new BFF and he opens the collection with this soulful number. sadly it's more like a justin song feat jay z than the other way around. it's a solid track though and definitely a highlight (with kurt cobain, mc hammer and michael jackson references to boot!) from an uneven album.
