sevyn streeter feat chris brown - it won't stop
though i prefer the original version (sans chris), if this duet will help increase the exposure of this talented singer and killer song, then so be it.
chris brown - fine china
with a full head tilt nod to michael jackson, you can't deny that this song is not only catchy but pretty darn good. though i will forever have my issues with chris brown, i won't hold back on enjoying a good song when i hear it (and the dancing in this video is hypnotic). i keep on thinking that this should have been the sound coming out from justin timberlake (and not the meh album he just released), but that's another issue for another day.

brandy feat chris brown - put it down
taken off her album 'two eleven', the song itself is fine (poppy but not too pop, street without too making it too urban). But therein lies the problem, it might be too middle of the road for it to make a dent. plus having chris brown these days on a single isn't really the best of ideas. i want to support, but like the song, i'm staying in the middle for it.
chris brown - don't wake me up
[it took 11 people to write this song! wtf?! with a crazily auto-tuned repetitive chorus, you would think i'd scoff at this from it's first play. but there's something beyond catchy here and well... 11 people involved have made sure you'll never forget this tune!!]
oof! talk about backfire... just when people were willing to overlook the rihanna incident for his strong collection of recent hits, chris brown and riri decided to cameo on each other's releases, giving off a very unfortunate subtext that it's ok with what went down 3 years ago. i'm definitely curious to see how their misguided choice will affect the releases (especially this one since it's such a solid pop gem)
11. Olly Murs feat Rizzle Kicks – Heart Skips A Beat / Dance With Me Tonight
[alot of my newfound love of olly murs stems from his co-hosting gig on the UK xtra factor. his affable demeanor and catchy retro pop sound is just too crowd pleasing to ignore!]
12. Chris Brown feat Benny Bennasi – Beautiful People / Chris Brown feat Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes – Look At Me Now
[the open club silliness of 'beautiful people' is just too brilliant to ignore. with a pulsating beat and preposterous lyrics about inner beauty, it's definitely a gem unto itself! flip side to 'look at me now' and chris brown turns into a swagger filled lyrical hoodlum with the help of busta and lil wayne. the end result is two diverse sides to a fabulous coin that deserves props for 2011]
13. Bruno Mars – It Will Rain
[it's probably the most overproduced, over the top, oversung ballad of the year and yet it still managed to be one of the best cheesy songs o the year. bravo!!!]
14. Lady Gaga – The Edge of Glory
[to be honest, i love this song cause i sound like a real dude when singing this at karaoke. (fist pump) alright! alright! alright!]
15. Labrinth feat Tinie Tempah – Earthquake
[the best bassline for a pop song i've heard all year also has the stupidest lyrics about earthquakes and bombs and groundbreakers. it's rare that one can offer stank face grooves and still be awesomely silly in one go. brilliant!]
16. LMFAO – I’m Sexy And I Know It
[i love that the lmfao guys are basically a club clown act and own it (plus they work out!). wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle yeah!]
17. Nicole Scherzinger – Don’t Hold Your Breath / Right There
[nicole offered two perfectly derivative songs for the year and proved that if you pay big bucks for strong songs you will be part of the music landscape... no matter how meh you are in real life!]
18. Cobra Starship feat Sabi – You Make Me Feel
[it's just so damm catchy... i have no other reason!]
19. Pitbull feat Neyo, Afrojack and Nayer – Give Me Everything
[i'm convinced that the lyric is 'grab somebody sexy time so hey!']
20. Gym Class Heroes feat Adam Levine – Stereo Hearts
[every time i hear a GCH track it takes me ages to admit that i like it. throw in the fact that i'm lukewarm about adam levine and well... it's only taken me til the end of the year to admit that this is a solid pop song for the guilty pleasure section]
chris brown feat justin bieber - next to you
[it's the end of the world, lets dance! am i the only one who thinks this over produced video preposterous?!]
benny benassi feat gary go - cinema
[continuing the trend between merging pop acts to club dj's, benny benassi seems to be on a roll these past few weeks with chris brown and now gary go as his guest vocalists. this track is a fun happy song with some serious bass kicking underneath, so turn it up!]
chris brown feat benny benassi - beautiful people
[to me this sounds more like a benny benassi track featuring chris brown, but i'm not a stickler for logistics. in light of his current trashing drama last week, chris brown needs as much happy lifestyle visuals as he can get. and what better way than to show CB with all his celebrity friends (jamming to a club song no less!).]
chris brown - forever [link 2] [produced by polow da don, i find it really interesting that electropop has been embraced by most r&b acts these days. my feeling is that this track will probably do better in europe, but then again 'forever' is already a top 10 hit on billboard so what do i know. this new track is just one of the 4 new tracks that will be featured on re-issue of his album 'exclusive' coming out in june.]
b chris brown - with you [link 2] [obsessed i am! i listen to it in the morning, i hear it on ipods in subways, i sing along to it in the shower! it's been out for eons (ok since december), but i still can't forget it. damn you stargate for producing this catchy track! oh, the video is all over the place, so just listen to the song. happy weekend kids!]
check out some of the killer cover versions out, these are my faves:
ingram hill - with you (cover) [i love how the 2nd guitarist kicks the lead singer to start off this sweet sweet cover (with a bit of down-south americana thrown in!)]
boyceavenue - with you (cover) [lowered the key, but he sounds amazing!]
kanye west - stronger [link 2] [it's pretty official now. kanye has the onscreen presence of p diddy (and that's not a good thing). the last 30 seconds where it's just him dancing is just painful to watch! thank goodness cassie got roped in to offer some much needed visual candy. thanks to alis blog for the video tip!]
chris brown - wall to wall [link 2] [ugh! what a letdown! it had the makings of a MJ thriller video. instead it's dancing on walls and sour vampire silliness. BORING!]
eugene mcguinness - monsters under the bed [link 2] [really cute song by a new singer songwriter that i'm keeping around on my radar blip. check out his myspace page for the song "bold street", i'm really digging it! thanks to ifmv and domino records for the tip]
