WONGIE FUTURE SOUL SONG OF THE WEEK: seinabo sey - i owe you nothing / feat jacob banks - remember

seinabo sey - i owe you nothing
oh what wonderful imagery from director sheila johansson to showcase swedish singer seinabo sey's awesome return single 'i owe you nothing'. building slowly til a full on choir kicks in by the end, seinabo is playing with the sound of soul by giving it a bare bones alt twist that is distinctly all hers. i've been a fan since her last album and i gotta say, this kicks it up a major notch! turn it up!!!

want more? as part of the double a single, check out the gorgeously sparse 'remember' duet featuring the amazing jacob banks below:

NEW ED SHEERAN: ed sheeran - perfect / fuse odg feat ed sheeran & mugeez - boa me

ed sheeran - perfect
i have to be honest, i was not a fan of this song when i first heard it. to me it felt like a 'thinking out loud' knockoff with even more twee lyrics. but you gotta give it up to director jason koenig who manages to take the cheese out and instead gives us a sweet video that shines even brighter with actress zoey deutch as the love interest. ski cabin bookings will go through the roof after watching this video!

fuse odg feat ed sheeran & mugeez - boa me
released on the same day comes this afro-beat jam by fuse odg with our boy ed giving a wonderful hook to the proceedings. it's a fun catchy song that will do wonders for the scene! love it!!

bringing together some of the biggest acts in africa at the moment (kah-lo was just nominated for a grammy yo!) uk dj/producer riton has just put out an insta-catchy dance number with a simple bass line over the songs' infectious melody & lyrics. this is gonna be huge, so turn it up and let this be your weekend jam!!!

WONGIE VIDEO OF THE WEEK: petite meller - baby love

petite meller - baby love
directed by a.t. mann and fashion photographer napoleon habeica, this highly stylized celebration of colors, wildlife and the youth of africa by french pop gal petite meller is something to admire. throw in the pop rave house (with sax!) track that is instantly catchy and you've got your hipster obsession for the summer. you have been warned!!

CATCH UP MIX: fuse odg feat sean paul - dangerous love

fuse odg feat sean paul - dangerous love
FINALLY a video for this fun african groove pop number! kind of my guilty pleasure of the summer!

FOLK TUESDAYS: nick mulvey - cucurucu

nick mulvey - cucurucu
when you listen to singer songwriter nick mulvey's music, there is a lovely world music agenda underlying his sound as he was educated in cuban and african cultures during his uni days. after leaving the mercury nominated band portico quartet to follow solo interests, nick's current folksy single "cucurucu" definitely has people buzzing about him. throw in a beautiful indonesian shot video and we've got a bit of an indie hit here.

LIVE PERFORMANCE: laura mvula - that's alright (live @ alan carr chatty man)

laura mvula - that's alright

my fave act of 2013 returns with another single off her debut album 'sing to the moon'. from the empowering lyrics to the art direction of the video, it's simply fabulous in all forms!

WEEKEND CATCH UP: d'banj - oliver twist

d'banj - oliver twist
[it's this mix of afro beats with electronic grooves that makes this track so damn awesome! the lyrics are stupid as hell, but heck, i can't help but bop happily to this! oh and if you haven't seen the video, check out who shows up at the end!]
