i have to say, putting together two of my fave hip hop tenors (albeit slightly autotuned) together in one song is a smart move! throw in the fact that it's the first single off the upcoming spider man animated film (which if you stayed til the end of venom you'd have seen the impressive clip) and i'm now even more curious about the whole project. great pop song, cool video, i'm in!

if you're not already listening to the soundtrack that came out over the weekend, then this is a good track to give you an idea of the different kinds of sounds our girl 'ally' will be performing in the film. channeling some carole king, this is a fun jam that actually sounds better and better a few times played over. yeah... i'm a fan.

for those of us fortunate enough to see a star is born already, the experience of watching these two perform on stage for the first time is a naturally tear inducing moment that kicks off their adventure/tragedy ahead. so FINALLY getting to hear 'shallow' again is not only a beautiful thing, but it reminds me how much i loved this film (which all of you will get to see oct 5th!!) goosebumps!

damn! the dave meyers directed video has SO many beautiful images to look at! with the movie coming out next week worldwide, the kendrick produced soundtrack kicks off the crazy buzz with this lovely sza collab. by the weekend we'll be able to hear the rest of this collection and check out how james blake, khalid, anderson paak & jorja smith sound when inspired by what some are already calling one of the best marvel superhero films ever.

executive producing the soundtrack for the upcoming lgbt teenage rom com 'love simon', jack antonoff surprised fans with the 1st release from the collection via a link and it's a pop gem! featuring new songs by troye sivan, amy shark and a duet between 5th harmony's normani kordei & khalid, 'alfie's song' is the perfect kick off to what already looks like a sweet fun hit film for the spring!

though 'mystery of love' sits happily at #13 of wongie's best songs of 2017 it doesn't mean that i don't swoon every time i hear it. but now with this wonderfully curated video featuring scenes from 'call me by your name' we can all swoon together at the beautiful summer that elio/oliver spent together. ah... swoooon some more!!!

i mean even bloody bastille lead singer dan smith is a cutey patootie! as the 1st official soundtrack release from the upcoming will smith / joel edgerton film 'bright', bastille kicks off an exciting collection that features new material from logic, rag n bone man, camila cabello, portugal the man, alt-j and even sam hunt. this is a nice orchestral epic number from the guys!

with valentines day right around the corner, that means we get to celebrate the most romantic day of the year with some good ol fashioned bdsm loving thanks to fifty shades! to be honest the soundtrack has always been better than the film itself and this round gets a kick off thanks to this uber catchy zayn / taylor swift duet. throw in a very adult look for our pop princess and we are heading into a new chapter in the t-swift transformation. oh and zayn still has the best looking eyes in pop!

sometimes you just need a sweet gentle song to make your weekend ever so nicer. co-written by the screenwriter of pete's dragon (with sentiments to match the new film no less) the lumineers continue their streak of putting out lovely tunes for their fans. nice one this!

after hinting about this last week, rihanna officially released the main theme song for the upcoming star trek film (the 13th!!) called 'sledgehammer'. the over the top production and vocals can only mean it's a sia and co. track. perhaps within the context of the credits, this song will be fun to listen to, but for now it's just ALOT.

nadia is back again with her PLAYS for the week and this time she looks at one of the nominees from the Oscar nominated best original song category "Simple Song #3" from the paolo sorrentino film 'Youth'.

though you can hear us pontificate about our personal thoughts about the movie (and also get a glimpse of what we talk about during our day jobs as film journalists), we are both in agreement that director sorrentino loves music and art as much as we do, hence our appreciation for a song like this.

the song is up against some heavy hitters, but it sure does make us swoon the easiest!

with less than a month away, the new john green screen adaptation, paper towns, is slowly rolling out tracks from their indie pop skewing soundtrack. with new tracks from galantis, sam bruno, vance joy, grouplove and santigold, mixed with recent faves from haim and vampire weekend, it's a pretty fine collection to soundtrack your inner teen moments this summer. now go and find yourself a life adventure with a twist of romance and mystery will ya!

even without the paper towns connection, this is a seriously perfect indie pop gem that deserves to be a massive hit. singer/songwriter sam bruno has already lent her vocals on dance tracks by gta and bisbetic, plus had a hand in co-writing kanye west's "the one". hopefully this will propel her into the mainstream spotlight cause the song is just wonderful!


santigold - radio
throwing her catchy hooks into the mix, santigold comes up with one of the most radio friendly tracks of her career (heck, it's even called radio!)


vance joy - great summer
aussie singer songwriter vance joy offers up a wistful post summer number to feel sentimental to. yaay!


grouplove - no drama queen
been a fan of these guys from the beginning and as usual they release a solid number that you can sing along to instantly.

though the film turned out to be a big successful meh, the wonderfully eclectic soundtrack of 'fifty shades of grey' continues to generate hits. which is probably why the label has decided to release a remixed companion album for the fans. the result is a surprisingly subtle collection of lush late night beats perfect for an evening of... um... staying in.

illuminating the barden university campus from the film pitch perfect, jessie j offers up the kind of power balladry that she is known for. it feels a tad dated to my tastes, BUT the video does feature scenes from the upcoming PP2 and i simply cannot wait for it to happen!!
