WONGIE SONG OF THE WEEK: janelle monae feat grimes - pynk

janelle monae feat grimes - pynk
though i'm not sure if the grimes version is the one for the video, but either way janelle monae's new single 'pynk' definitely celebrates womyn in all their glory! directed by emma westenberg the awesome video also marks the return of hot actress tessa thompson who also co-starred in the epic prince inspired smash 'make me feel' (see below). the whole thing celebrates pussy power which is definitely cause for major happiness!
janelle monae - make me feel
don't know why i never posted my love for this song, but it's definitely one of my favorites of the year!!

um... so if this awesome track is JUST an unreleased demo released for her fans, what will her upcoming ACTUAL releases sound like? damn! shot throughout her asian tour, grimes offers up this gem for all of us to salivate over until the official new songs come out later this year.

WONGIE DUB POP SONG OF THE WEEK: grimes feat blood diamonds - go
grimes feat blood diamonds - go
we've practically had the whole summer to jam to this rihanna rejected track and though it was released as a curiosity piece, it has easily turned into a summer favorite and proper single for grimes. how cool is that?

WONGIE FM: Best of 2012 #11-20
Best of 2012 #11-20
As we get closer to the Top 10, one wonders how pop icons like Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Ellie Goulding and Ed Sheeran all got shafted into the Top 20 instead! Of course they all offered some serious tracks for the year (Riri with her club anthems, Taylor supplying some of the best pop ballads - and the heartbreaking Ronan, Ellie bringing her form of future pop and Ed just writing endless hit after hit) but somehow it still wasn't enough to break the 10.
As for the rest of the Top 20, they offer up a wonderful 'best of' 2012: Jake Bugg (the best old skool rockabilly young singer of the year! his energy is amazing!), Conor Maynard (the best pop boy vocalist out at the moment), Bastille (the best indie pop dude of last year and maybe this one!), Icona Pop (the best kick you in the neck bratty bitch song of the last year!), 2ne1 (the best kpop song of last year - it's 5 songs in one and all of them are catchy!) and Grimes (the best hipster girl pop song of the year - literally EVERYONE i know sings along to this song when they hear it).
And now onto the Top 10!
11. Rihanna – Diamonds / Where Have You Been / Jump
12. Taylor Swift – Safe and Sound (feat The Civil Wars) / Ronan / I Knew You Were Trouble
13. Jake Bugg – Lightning Bolt
14. Conor Maynard – Can’t Say No / Turn Around (feat NeYo)
15. Ellie Goulding – Anything Could Happen / My Blood
16. Ed Sheeran – Small Bump / Give Me Love
17. Bastille – Flaws
18. Icona Pop – I Don’t Care
19. 2ne1 – I Love You
20. Grimes – Oblivion

WONGIE INDIE SONG OF THE WEEK: grimes - genesis
grimes - genesis
inspired by the hieronymus bosch painting 'the seven deadly sins and the four last things'(see below), grimes returns with a cali desert sexy girl power vid that you can't keep your eyes off. throw in the fact that the single genesis is a total gem and you have pretty much the coolest thing you'll see this week!

WONGIE DISCOVERY: grimes - oblivion / vanessa / genesis
nothing like checking out an internet buzz act and then discovering that the hype is actually worth the praise. based in montreal, claire boucher (aka grimes) is a part artist/ part pop star. fusing random influences as diverse as aphex twin meets enya, the end result is a lo-fi yet densely musical experience. throw in the fact she is pretty darn cute and you've got yourself the ingredients for hipster (and also the rest of us) love. i dig her and so should you!
check out a very nice collection of from her album visions:
