AUDIO BUZZ: mutya keisha siobhan - lay down in swimming pools / kendrick lamar - swimming pools (drank)

mutya keisha siobhan - lay down in swimming pools
how hot is this! taking the kendrick lamar track 'swimming pools (drank)' and then putting their tight vocals on top of it, the original sugababes are really building anticipation for their eventual official release. perhaps this will show up on a mixtape, but hurry up and put out stuff already!

want to hear the original smash? check it out below:

wongie top songs of 2007: #25 siobhan donaghy - don't give it up

siobhan donaghy - don't give it up [link 2]
[completely ignored when it was released back in april, siobhan donaghy's album 'ghosts' was an almost perfect collection of dreamy kate bush-lite pop. perhaps the timing wasn't right for songs like these, but on my ipod playlist, this OTT single was a repeat offender.]

best of 2007: fave acts so far (1/2 year report)

this has been an amazing music year so far with new stuff coming at me daily (much that i've shared back to you). but amoung the batch, a few acts have filtered through and kept on returning to my personal playlists.

since it feels like such a slow week, i figured now is probably the best time to re-introduce some of the artist highlights of 2007 from january to june (in no particular order):

[for friends and fans of wongie, you probably know the class of 2007 (so far) pretty well. but for the rest of you, hopefully you can discover some gems from the list below. also you may have noticed that wongie faves mika, amy winehouse, gossip and lily allen aren't here (since they were loved in 06, i kind of took them out of the lineup just cause i'm a stickler like that!)]

tracey thorn - raise the roof
siobhan donaghy - ghosts
just jack - i talk to much
loney, dear - saturday waits
peter bjorn & john - young folks
feist - my moon my man (boys noize remix)
rufus wainwright - sansoucci
rihanna - rehab
glen hansard & marketa irglova (ONCE the soundtrack) - falling slowly
lil mama - lip gloss (absorb the lip gloss mash up remix)
kate nash - foundations
mia - boyz
cherry ghost - 4am
sara bareilles - love song
a fine frenzy - almost lover
roisin murphy - overpowered

siobhan donaghy - so you say (world premiere)

siobhan donaghy - so you say
[with the 1st single just out this week, may we present to you 2nd release from siobhan's awesome ghosts album. the ending is kind of body snatcher-ish, but besides that she looks lovely!]

mutya - real girl (world premiere)

mutya - real girl
[i've been dying to hear this ever since popjustice raved about this song a week ago! sampling lenny kravitz 'it ain't over till it's over', mutya proves that there is life after the sugababes (and apparently beef too). with siobhan donaghy and her both releasing strong upcoming albums, i wonder what the remaining girls are going to do without their most talented vocalists?]

gift of song: siobhan donaghy, beyonce, natasha bedingfield, timbaland feat m.i.a.

with a slew of new stuff spewing out on the interweb, i thought i'd be a tad nice and pass on some gems for you to savor (plus, i'm on jury duty, so i can't do anything during the day). enjoy!

siobhan donaghy - there's a place
[with the album ghosts recently leaked out, i have to say there are so many beautiful gems on siobhan's debut that it's turning my head in. i've chosen a gorgeous lullabye that happily proves that siobhan has left her sugababes roots far far behind. definitely a contender for the best album of the month!]

beyonce - still in love (kissing you)
[for those of us ballad freaks, you will easily recognize this cover version of the classic des'ree song that she penned for the decade old romeo & juliet soundtrack. taken from the packed b-day re-issue, b does a nice job of not over doing the vocals as she is prone to do alot these days. lovely.]

natasha bedingfield - soulmate
[natasha's debut album unwritten was a surprise not only in it's dearth of singles but with vocals that were even more impressive live. her upcoming album n.b. looks to continue the tradition (though from the 5 track sampler, i have yet to hear something as catchy as "unwritten")]

timbaland feat m.i.a. - come around
[featured on the uk version of his upcoming album shock value, this collaboration could have been explosive, but has turned out a bit boring if you ask me.]

listen to this: siobhan donaghy

new material from the ex-sugababes singer siobhan donaghy was leaked out legally by her label earlier last month. the two tracks nicely established a new sound for the redhead that falls in between deep forest and kate bush. hopefully the album 'ghosts' will be just as interesting as what i've heard so far. don't believe me, check them out yourself.
