released just as donald glover went on SNL to be both the host and musical guest, childish gambino's new single (which he also world premiered that night) tackles gun violence and police brutality with the kind of surprise randomness situated next to dancing and celebratory singing. it's shocking to see, but just the kind of video you expect from this creative genius that's having a stellar year both in front and behind the camera.

as part of the continual media tour of the US, adele stopped by the tonight show with jimmy fallon and gave a world premiere performance of one of the more upbeat tracks from her massive '25' collection. co-written by greg kurstin ("hello"), it's nice to hear other tracks from the album considering most of us are already burnt out from the 1st single.

THIS IS WHAT I WROTE LAST WEEK:
so the song isn't bad and marcus sounds pretty rocking. but it's just kind of too easy to criticize this band for trying out a new sound for themselves and coming out kind of derivative (cough... foo fighters... cough). sigh...

sia once again brings her version of performance art/pop into the mainstream as she flawlessly performed her two hits from her current grammy award nominated album '1000 forms of fear' on snl over the weekend. bringing along a mime (bradley leconey) who sign languages 'chandelier' and once again using her dance muse maddie ziegler (and adult doppelgänger denna thomsen) for 'elastic heart'. honestly, it's all sorts of amazing so press play!

if you didn't know kendrick before, hopefully saturday's performance on snl would have convinced you that this guy is on a different level in terms of what he brings to the music scene these days. weirdly the studio version doesn't have the intensity as this version, but thank goodness kendrick showcased his massive talents for everyone to see.

making her US broadcast debut, our girl jessie j rips into the screens of america and i'm totally curious how she came across to everyone. my gut feeling is that her rendition of 'price tag' might be too OTT (she oversang the song which is a shame since it's the first time ALOT of people have heard this song in the US), but she nails it later on for 'mamma knows best' (with an energy and performance that brings on goosebumps). all in all, an auspicious debut and i can't wait to see what happens next!
