REEEMIX: beyonce feat busta rhymes & azealia banks - partition (remix)

beyonce feat busta rhymes & azealia banks - partition (remix)
though the addition of these two rappers doesn't enhance the original too much, i do have to give props to azealia's verse which showcase her natural skills when she's not in her sociopathic unedited mode. oh the potential...

COOL MIX: drums of death feat azealia banks and franklin fuentes - fierce

drums of death feat azealia banks and franklin fuentes - fierce
nothing like the original vocals of a house classic ("work it girlfriend") to inspire both azealia banks to throw down some verses, but a whole new arrangement thanks to the scottish dj. it's all very fun and celebratory of 90's extravaganza balls! work it bitches!

LIVE PERFORMANCE: azealia banks feat pharrell - atm jam (live @ glastonbury 2013)

azealia banks feat pharrell - atm jam (live @ glastonbury 2013)
not too sold on this track, but azealia did manage to offer some buzz on her new single by world premiering it on the glastonbury stage.

here is the studio version premiered on hot 97 a few days back:

VIDEO PREMIERE!: azealia banks - yung rapunxel

azealia banks - yung rapunxel
i love the line 'i'm so tired of this drama' cause this girl surrounds herself with it (via twitter) every week. here is my plea to the rapper: just make music, the beefs only makes people not take you seriously, and this new track is actually a decent futuristic screamo number that in a parallel universe makes you cool!

WONGIE HIP HOP SONG OF THE WEEK: shystie feat azealia banks - control it

shystie feat azealia banks - control it
with 2 hot mixtapes under her belt, UK rapper shystie offers up an official video for her hot club friendly single 'control it'. sadly ex-bff azealia banks has taken to twitter to start another public beef with the rapper (can she not do anything in private?). you can read about it here. i'm just going to focus on the fact that this track is HOT and you should turn it up!

AUDIO PREMIERE!: azealia banks - yung rapunxel

THIS is the official single off her (finally) debut album 'broke with expensive taste'? it's her alter ego folks and it's aggressive to say the least. hopefully the rest of the album isn't this, um, angry... good luck with this one...

VIRAL REEEMIX!: azealia banks - harlem shake (remix) / matt & kim - harlem shake / baauer - harlem shake

azealia banks - harlem shake (remix)
UPDATE: now with a new video!!!
i'm surprised somebody hasn't done this earlier, but azealia banks has taken the baauer viral club track and sprinkled her flair on top of it. i swear her bootleg stuff is far better than the official singles at this point! now harlem shake!

speaking of viral versions of the harlem shake, have you seen the one by matt & kim? F**king awesome!!

WONGIE FM: Best of 2012 #21-30

Best of 2012: #21-30

Edging closer to the top 20, this batch consists of some of my favorite bands of last year (The Maccabees, Dirty Projectors, Everything Everything and Alt J are all f-ing brilliant!) that offered up a mix of tracks that both appealed to my quiet internal and boppy external, all the while teaching me some quirky musicality no one else had.

While the rest of the bunch definitely showcases the fact that electronic music and hipster soul have ALOT in common these days (Solange, Santigold and Azealia Banks being the best examples of what I'm talking about). Of course fans of dance music will not be surprised that the epic Swedish House Mafia track made the list, as did the uber catchy Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (I mean the vocal hook is "feet don't fail me now!").  Finally 2012 discovery Haim make their way into the top 30 with their happy go lucky sunny pop that feels both retro and fresh at the same time. Just love these gals!!!

Up next the Top 20!

21. The Maccabees – Pelican / Feel To Follow
22. Dirty Projectors – Dance For You / Swing Lo Magellan
23. Everything Everything – Cough Cough / Kemosabe
24. Alt J – Tessellate / Matilda
25. Solange – Losing You
26. Swedish House Mafia – Don’t You Worry Child
27. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs – Tapes and Money
28. Santigold – Disparate Youth
29. Haim – Don’t Save Me / Forever
30. Azealia Banks – Esta Noche

VIDEO PREMIERE!: azealia banks - van vogue

azealia banks - van vogue
though alot of her tracks are focused around a groove these days, van vogue is definitely one of azealia's stronger releases (the centerpiece breakdown is sick!). with a buzzed about mixtape, an hot EP and fashionista appreciation all in check, i'm really hoping that the next round of releases will offer more musicality over swagger. while i'm at it, bring back the vogue balls!!!!

NEW AZEALIA BANKS!: azealia banks - liquorice

azealia banks - liquorice
[it sure ain't the 212, but it sure is a new azealia banks! bring on the 90's house grooves yo!]

NEW AZEALIA BANKS!: azealia banks - needsumluv

azealia banks - needsumluv
[though this isn't as amahzing as 212 (it honestly sounds a tad robyn, which is not a bad thing), this new track does showcase the soul side of our gal azealia banks. i'm still in but hoping to hear something kicking soon (she is recording with paul (rolling in the deep) epworth yo! oh and you can download it if you love this song!]

WONGIE POP SONG OF THE WEEK: scissor sisters vs krystal pepsy (aka azealia banks) - shady love

scissor sisters vs krystal pepsy (aka azealia banks) - shady love
[it's 2012 and scissor sisters offers up the 1st pop gem of the year! it's a mess but weirdly genius at the same time. even though the track fuses sass and dub and disco and latin house all in one go, it's still a scissor sisters track (and one that sounds relevant to the times which they seem to have missed out on with the last album). cool points go to azealia banks who has sprinkled some of her cool dust on these guys!]

WONGIE HIP HOP SONG OF THE WEEK: azealia banks - 212

azealia banks - 212
[she's 19, she's sassy and she makes hip hop with a club twist and a sprinkle of nasty mouth thrown in! i think i'm in love!]
