VIDEO PREMIERE: christine and the queens - 5 dollars

christine and the queens - 5 dollars
continuing her visual dive into masculinity tropes, the awesome heloise letissier (aka christine and the queens) goes into american gigalo mode as 'they' prepare for work. ironically the song is a sweet synth pop number which makes what will transgress even more interesting. love it all!!

VIDEO PREMIERE: years & years - sanctify

years & years - sanctify
it's the return of olly and his gang! the synth pop trio bring their 1st single 'sanctify' with a high concept video set in the futuristic palo santo where humans are captured to bring entertainment to  androids (can't wait to see where the rest of the story will lead to). the song itself is an uber catchy electronic soul number that we've come to love so much from these guys! welcome back!!

WONGIE POP BALLAD OF THE WEEK: lauv - getting over you

lauv - getting over you
released as a surprise single on valentines day, singer/songwriter lauv just gave the heartbroken an anthem to lose themselves in. doesn't help that the synth pop ballad is so damn catchy and continues to show what a wonderful writer ari is. love this!!!

WONGIE INDIE POP SONG OF THE WEEK: chvrches - get out

chvrches - get out
it's been 3 years since chvrches have put out an album and their return was made with the help of  super producer greg kurstin (adele), who is giving their synth sound an edgier spin. kicking off with the super catchy "get out", the promo video also features a possible collaboration with the national (look for the telephone number), which makes this upcoming album even more intriguing! welcome back!!!

ALBUM STREAM: chvrches - every open eye

chvrches - every open eye
definitely a more confident sophomore release, 'every open eye' continues to showcase chvrches strong pop songwriting sensibilities filtered with their 80's synth celebratory skills. of course lauren mayberry makes the best frontwoman for all this perfection. between ryan adams and this album, today has been a great day for music!

WONGIE INDIE POP SONG OF THE WEEK: shura - white light

shura - white light
edited down from the original 6 mins version, shura's latest single is a celebration of all things 80's synth pop (with guitar riffs and everything!) which in my book is never a bad thing!

NEW YEARS & YEARS: years & years - shine / king

years & years - shine
with their debut album 'communion' right around the corner, the boys of years & years put out a new single after the massive success of their track "king". though this is a more mellow track from their previous releases, it still continues their winning streak as one of the better synth indie pop bands out at the moment. big fan!

years & years - king
i TOTALLY missed out on posting this track back when it was released in january and it has since turned into one of the biggest smashes of the year. not that i wasn't humming along to this song for the past few months, i just never posted it. so as a catch up experience (and for those who aren't already in love with this song) here it is!!

WONGIE ELECTRO POP SONG OF THE WEEK: prides - higher love

prides - higher love
honestly the 80's celebratory synth pop song by these scottish lads speaks for itself! with only a few EP's under their belt, the trio are heading over stateside for a mini tour before going back to the UK summer festival circuit. i'm sure we'll be hearing alot from them in the coming months... and that makes me happy!

WONGIE DANCE POP SONG OF THE WEEK: blonde feat charli taft - higher ground

blonde feat charli taft - higher ground
nothing like a poppy synth tune to make your scorching summer bearable! the duo of adam englefield and jacob manson (aka blonde) have crafted a lovely late afternoon jam with the sweet vocals of singer songwriter charli taft. it's on repeat and should be the same for you!

WEEKEND CATCH UP: la roux - let me down gently / uptight downtown

la roux - let me down gently
after taking a 5 year break (while splitting up with her writing partner ben langmaid AND losing her voice), elly jackson (aka la roux) is finally back with an album that's made wholly from her choices. so far the buzz track is quite a reboot from the synth pop that made her into a worldwide superstar. the electronics are still there, just less front and center. we shall see if this works in the long run... so far i like it.

want more? check out another track from her latest album 'trouble in paradise'!:

la roux - uptight downtown

COOL MIX: chloe howl - paper heart

chloe howl - paper heart
why this song hasn't buzzed through to the masses is beyond me. it's a piece of perfect synth pop with a really strong bass kick below it all. spread the love if you like what you hear cause chloe is definitely a good contender for artist to watch in 2014!

COOL MIX: chvrches - lies

chvrches - lies
it's kind of amazing how fast this electro pop trio have risen in the past year! with their catchy songs and cutie lead lauren becoming the obsession of many a hipgal and fanboy, it's great to end the year with the first song that made me buzz for them back in the day. officially their new single, this is chvrches at their best (though the mother we share is still my fave song of their repertoire)

GUY MIX: the killers - shot at the night

the killers - shot at the night
the 80's electro synthline that permeates this killers/m83 collaboration is wonderfully cinematic, which definitely makes the roboshobo video starring bella heathcote (dark shadows) and max minghella (the social network) really watchable. fall in love in vegas will ya?

SYNTHTASTIC VIRAL VIDEO: baddy paris and rufus starlight - we are brothers (a best man song)

baddy paris and rufus starlight - we are brothers (a best man song)
originally recorded and shot as a best man video to their brother robin, the awesomely 80's influenced song "we are brothers" has taken a life on it's own in the viral world and blown up to a million hits since it went public two weeks ago. the song is like, totally rad and the video... well, just press play. you will not regret it!

just cause i love the images so much, another gem from the video!:

THIS WEEKS MIX: roosevelt - elliot

roosevelt - elliot
i know, i am listening to alot of synth disco these days, but you gotta admit that these are good tracks i'm posting under this milieu! throw in the fact that this gem is the product of the cologne based marius lauber who specializes in washed out disco and we have ourselves a new fan. good stuff.

THIS WEEKS MIX: bondax - giving it all

bondax - giving it all
we chilled out to the audio version of this wonderful synth disco anthem a few weeks back, now we do a repeat with the UK duo's official video on release. it's just too good to ignore, just turn it up and boogie down people!

THIS WEEKS MIX: goldroom - embrace

goldroom - embrace
who knew that LA had a decent disco synth band lurking in it's spread out vast landscape? i'm definitely digging this cute trio!

THIS WEEKS MIX: small black - breathless

small black - breathless
this synth pop gem is just perfect to lose yourself to. with their surprisingly raw bored youth/post summer video, this is a brooklyn act that should be on your radar. nice one.

AUDIO BUZZ: kate boy - the way we are

kate boy - the way we are
oh the synth beats are even more wondrously chaotic than in 'northern lights'! i can't wait to see what kate and her crew will do for the video! future post to come, just wanted you to hear this awesome song first!
