no rome feat the 1975 - narcissist
it's so exciting to listen to a new gen of songwriters celebrate all the soul hooks of the 90's/00's again! manila based no rome has quickly turned into one of my fave debut acts of 2018 and with the 1975 on producer helm, they are churning out some serious grooves for you to jam to! love this song!!

WONGIE INDIE POP SONG OF THE WEEK: superorganism - night time

superorganism - night time
the uk based multi national superorganism posse have chosen this insta-catchy number from their self titled debut album as their new single! lead singer orono continues to compel with her deadpan vocals surrounded by a room full of uber talented multi-hypenates who are definitely older than her 17 years of age. which is probably why we love them so much!

WONGIE INDIE POP SONG OF THE WEEK: superorganism - everybody wants to be famous

superorganism - everybody wants to be famous
nothing like kicking off 2018 with this quirky new 8 member band (they live in a communal building in london) fronted by the very teenager orono who's much younger than those she performs with. each member has their own function but collectively they are making some real catchy all over the place pop gems that sound super self assured and highly identifiable. it's going to be a fun 2018 for these guys!!

want more? check out a live version of their 1st single 'something for your m.i.n.d.' below:

WONGIE INDIE POP SONG OF THE WEEK: lany - super far

lany - super far
lany (aka LA-NY) have slowly released solid track after track from their self-titled debut album, and this one looks set to offer the trio some serious crossover bizness. with their john hughes for a new generation sound, i've been enjoying these guys for a good part of this year (listen to the excellent breakup track below) and will happily chalk them up as one of the best new bands of 2017!

WONGIE INDIE POP SONG OF THE WEEK: tigertown - warriors

tigertown - warriors
i first discovered sydney based tigertown last year with their insanely insta-catchy anthem 'lonely cities'. with a kind of joyous musicality and singalong chorus, it was an exciting kick start for this husband/wife core / with perspective family members in tow band. now the gang offer up their latest single "warriors" and it's equally brilliant! these guys are gonna be big yo, so get in with the love program!

want more? check out the awesome song that started it all for me!

WONGIE SONG OF THE WEEK: birdtalker - one

birdtalker - one
sometimes a song just finds you and you are just the better person because of it. birdtalker are a collective of musicians rooted with the coupling of zack & dani green, who've spent the past year honing their sound culminating with the release of their upcoming debut album. "one" does that perfect thing where it draws you in with a kickoff hum then opens your heart with it's sage lyrics. when dani comes in with her counter melody all feels break loose and well... life is just grand afterwards. sigh.

WONGIE SONG OF THE WEEK: sofi tukker feat betta lemme - awoo / drinkee

sofi tukker feat betta lemme - awoo
firstly when did new york city spawn the wonderful dance influenced duo of sophie hawley-weld and tucker halpern (aka sofi tukker) and secondly how have they only just shown up on my radar (shows you how behind i am with things!) with their house grooves and soulfully tribal rhythms, these guys might just become my fave new band of the moment. press play, bop to their awesomeness and check out their other musical gems from their debut EP below.

sofi tukker - drinkee
OMG this song is AMAZING!!!!

INDIE DANCE BITCH DANCE: white - blush

white - blush
um... what is this post punk disco with a funky groove and crazy sax thrown in? it's from new scottish 5 piece white and it's kind of genius in that sweaty 3am beyond drenched boogie kind of way. how lovely!

WONGIE SONG OF THE WEEK: clean cut kid - vitamin c

clean cut kid - vitamin c
oh yeah, this debut single by liverpudlian quartet clean cut kid is pretty darn darn wonderful. with fuzzy guitars underlying a singalong love song (a duet no less), the track is just the perfect sweet gem that you can still feel cool about post gush (the band has beards and tattoos so back off!) if this is their debut, i can't wait to hear what else they have in store.

WONGIE INDIE POP SONG OF THE WEEK: josef salvat - till i found you

josef salvat - till i found you
aussie singer josef salvat is slowly turning into 2015's debut solo male singer making epic dramatic pop for the masses. it's hella wonderful (with solid videos to match) and definitely on our radar!

WONGIE SONG OF THE WEEK: arctic lake - limits

arctic lake - limits
ok fine, the similarities between london three piece arctic lake and the other three piece london grammar are very close. both have leading ladies with haunting beautiful voices and both swim in that shoegazing electronica that makes them interesting instantly. the only difference is that london grammar don't have new material out at the moment and the new band arctic lake... do! and what a lovely song it is! recently added onto the bbc radio 1 playlist, we will be hearing alot more from this trio in the coming months. you have been gently nudged.

WONGIE ELECTRO POP SONG OF THE WEEK: prides - higher love

prides - higher love
honestly the 80's celebratory synth pop song by these scottish lads speaks for itself! with only a few EP's under their belt, the trio are heading over stateside for a mini tour before going back to the UK summer festival circuit. i'm sure we'll be hearing alot from them in the coming months... and that makes me happy!

7 ACTS YOU NEED TO KNOW NOW: lion babe / raury / karen harding / elle king / clare maguire / josef salvat / BØRNS

nothing like introducing a bunch of new acts to the masses on a friday!

the truth of the matter is that i've got such a backlog of music i wanna share with you that these compilation days work the best for me from now on! so expect something like this once a week. spend some time, discover (or replay) some awesome stuff and head into the weekend all the wiser!

so check out 7 of my fave new voices around below:

lion babe - treat me like fire
hot damn do i LOVE jillian hervey's hair! throw in her silky vocals over the minimally sexy production of lucas goodman and you've got the buzzy duo of the soul scene right now. oh and one for the fact file, jillian is vanessa williams daughter, no wonder she's so gorgeous!

raury - god's whisper
there's something very exciting about atlanta based rapper/singer raury's music. no wonder he's turned into one of the more buzzed acts around with his folk hip hop soul sound. press play and experience one of the more interesting songs you'll hear this weekend.

karen harding - say something
with her soulful house debut single 'say something' making it into the uk top 10, this mnek signed artist is geared for big things from the uk soul scene. this track has been on blast since last year and still sounds hot today!

elle king - ex's & oh's
with her debut album 'love stuff' just released, raspy voiced elle king has the kind of country swagger and rip roaring retro soul that makes her just the powerhouse to seek out this year. you have been warned!

clare maguire - don't mess me around
after getting dropped from her major label deal, 27 year old songstress clare maguire spent some serious time working on new material and discovering her true voice. the result is this rip roaring retro soul number that just deserves some serious stomp on the dancefloor. welcome back!!!

josef salvat - hustler
mmmm this aussie singer/songwriter has crafted a soothingly tantalizing electronic lush pop number with an equally sexually ambiguous video to match. good stuff and i'm curious to hear more!

BØRNS - 10,000 emerald pools
cali-based electro folk newbie (and now taylor swifts indie pop obsession), garrett borns, has crafted one of the best indie pop songs of late! not much is known about the singer songwriter, but with a debut like this, i'm definitely in on future releases!

WONGIE SONG(s) OF THE WEEK: james bay - let it go / hold back the river

james bay - let it go
something wonderful happened last week thursday for british singer/songwriter james bay. in one prime time hour, TWO shows (greys anatomy / the vampire diaries) showcased the beautiful 'let it go' track to millions of viewers in the US. hopefully he'll soon be getting that highly coveted saturday night live slot too! with a 2015 BRIT awards critics choice under his belt (previous winners sam smith, ellie goulding and adele have all done quite well thank you), you will be hearing ALOT more of this guy in the coming months (if you're not already).

james bay - hold back the river
since we're on a james bay lovefest, check out the amazing current single which has been on repeat on our carmix 2014/2015 the second we heard this song last year!

WONGIE FOLK POP SONG OF THE WEEK: hudson taylor - world without you

hudson taylor - world without you
irish brothers harry & alfie hudson-taylor are set to finally release their debut album (they've been on the buzzlines for a good 2 years now) 'singing for stranger' next month. their latest single is easily their most radio friendly singalong number and hopefully will bring these troubadours the success they deserve. loving the heartfelt storytelling by video directors filmawi & esreal too!

years & years - desire
celebrating chicago house with 90's pop dance hooks, years & years is quickly turning into one of my fave new acts of the year. we've posted two previous hot tracks with this trio and this is easily my fave of the lot! press play and feel the elation!

WEEKEND CATCH UP: becky hill - caution to the wind

becky hill - caution to the wind
what a subdued interesting debut single for the UK singer/songwriter becky hill. after gaining popularity as a semi finalist in the 1st season of the voice uk, becky found herself as a go to session singer for both wilkinson and oliver heldens (see below) and created massive hits in the process. hence the surprise to hear something so lovely and restrained for becky's first release. i'm definitely curious to see whats in store for this lovely talented ingenue now.
wanna check out the tracks that becky hill delivered hit making vocals to? check them out below!:

wilkinson feat becky hill - afterglow

oliver heldens x becky hill - gecko (overdrive)

WEEKEND CATCH UP: sasha keable - living without you

sasha keable - living without you
already getting loads of exposure through her contributions with dj zinc and disclosure the past year, UK soul vocalist sasha keable is slowly putting out stuff of her own. releasing the free EP 'lemongrass and limeleaves' (to which this awesome late 80's soul jam hails from), i can't wait to hear what other gems she has up her talented sleeves.

WEEKEND CATCH UP: jacob banks - move with you

jacob banks - move with you
listening to this happy retro jam makes you wanna clap your hands and dance on table tops! with this infectious single setting up his upcoming debut album, UK soul act jacob banks is on my radar now. hot damn is this song catchy!
