tapping influences that range from photographer charles ebbets to choreography of west side story, we see the wonderful (long awaited) return of christine and the queens! giving us some serious 80's soul funk as her kick off single, heloise letissier (aka 'christine') is definitely leaving the cool sparseness of her last album to something warmer and more emotional this time. can't wait to hear more!!

though i'm not sure if the grimes version is the one for the video, but either way janelle monae's new single 'pynk' definitely celebrates womyn in all their glory! directed by emma westenberg the awesome video also marks the return of hot actress tessa thompson who also co-starred in the epic prince inspired smash 'make me feel' (see below). the whole thing celebrates pussy power which is definitely cause for major happiness!

call it a more toned down funk jam, but the return of justin timberlake is no doubt a risky release for those hoping for something more hyped (especially since the song reunites timbaland with JT post 'sexyback'). throw in a robot dancing video by mark romanek and you've got something that falls a bit short in my book. with more tracks coming out in the following weeks this is just a teaser of what to expect.

ALL ABOUT KEHLANI: kehlani - touch / calvin harris feat kehlani & lil yachty - faking it / honey

what's kind of amazing about the 22 year old kehlani is that she pretty much showed up like a full fledged boss artist with a look and sound that doesn't give off any whiff of newbie/one to watch status. the problem is that her songs so far haven't even come close to that presentation, which is probably why alot of people still haven't discovered this young talent yet. hopefully these two new releases will kick up her recognition factor. first up buzz track 'touch' is an electro-fied pop number that is catchy as! we back that up with the latest single off calvin harris' 'funk wave bounces vol 1' (and an album highlight) with kehlani as the main vocalist. you get the idea of her talents here and hopefully in the coming year we will be hearing ALOT of big things from this girl.

after 4 years away from releasing new material, bruno mars is BACK with an 80's funk jam filled with catchy phrases and fun dance steps. though i can't say it's his best work, it's a nice tease of the sound that's yet to come!

to be honest, there is nothing new here (especially since fleur made public impact last year when she performed 'uptown funk' on the x-factor uk), this pretty much is a carbon copy of the bruno mars smash but i have to say, once those michael jackson-esque horns kick in almost all is forgiven cause all you wanna do is bop your head. the song will be a massive hit, you will feel manipulated throughout. gosh darnit!
