[it always bums me out when you can't really find too much information about an interesting act that hits your radar. all that is known about this five piece is that they hail from bangor, wales, and lead singer ed ellis jones has the kind of voice that keeps on getting them compared to kasabian. currently buzzed on BBC radio 1 as an 'BBC introducing' band, we'll be keeping an eye for these welsh boys in the coming months.]
daniel merriweather and mark ronson - a little bit better
[daniel and mark get back together to offer up this lovely gem of a song for the soundtrack to the russell brand arthur reboot. just brilliantly lovely stuff!]
the japanese popstars feat lisa hannigan - song for lisa (benny bennasi remix)
[thank goodness benny bennasi was hired to give this song a re-rub cause the original version (which you can hear below) is neither here nor there! honestly the only reason why i even discovered this track is because of my deep love of all things lisa hannigan, so it's kind of a waste that she chose to offer up her strong vocals to this bland airy dance song. oh well, thats why we have remixes!]

[various cruelties is actually the alias of liam o'donnell. with interest from heavy radio hitters based on his demos alone, buzz is definitely building around this leeds born frontman. is it just me, but there seems to be a wave of retro rock n roll fronted by soulful lead vocals coming from the UK these days. it's a zeitgeist that i'm definitely happy to follow!]

[this welsh duo found early support through kcrw's nic harcourt who not only hooked them up with a showcase at sxsw, but also introduced the band to wilco's ken coomer (who went on to produce their debut album). the end result is a collection of heartfelt tracks with has a classic sunny retro pop feel that i like so much. just press play and you'll know what i mean.]
jay jay johanson - dilemma
[what a cool track! taken from his upcoming album 'spellbound', jay-jay johanson has created a respectable decade long career of fusing art and music together via his soft tenor vocals. this time around he strips down alot of the arrangements with just simple orchestration and just lets the music speak for itself. the final result is a hypnotic personal album that is definitely spellbinding for all those who listen to it. brilliant!]

mary j blige feat diddy and lil wayne - someone to love me (naked)
[this is a surprising jam from mary j blige. after releasing some, dare i say, boring tunes the past few years, MJB took ahold of diddy's dirty money track and revised it with the full blessing (and contribution) of diddy himself. this version is HOT! i can't stop listening to it!]
benny benassi feat gary go - cinema
[continuing the trend between merging pop acts to club dj's, benny benassi seems to be on a roll these past few weeks with chris brown and now gary go as his guest vocalists. this track is a fun happy song with some serious bass kicking underneath, so turn it up!]
aloe blacc - i need a dollar
[oh i LOVE this kind of retro 70's soul (with strings and brass no less)! throw in the fact that this is the theme song to the HBO show 'how to make it in america' and you can understand why i dig this guy so much! with his music getting a repackage on a major label, prepare to hear more from aloe in the coming months!]
fleet foxes - grown ocean
[this song is just SO lush!!!!! i can't describe it any more except that i just want to get lost in it! just another amazing track off their amazing album 'helplessness blues'.]
beirut - o leaozinho (caetano veloso cover)
[contributing a track to the upcoming red hot & rio 2 compilation, beirut covers a classic caetano veloso song for the collection. the album will also feature john legend, dirty projectors, beck, bebel gilberto and loads more. as with all red hot projects, proceeds will go to various AIDS/HIV charities and will hopefully break the 1 million dollar record set by the 1st collection. can't wait to hear the rest of this album!]

[it all kind of starts off meh, but then jennifer nettles shows up and riri ups her vocals to match the sugarland lead singers' genius. probably one of the best vocal performances by rihanna i've seen in awhile!]

[UPDATE: just a wonderful song that keith performed so intimately on the ACM stage. he just seems so happy when he's singing this beautiful song (which surprisingly wasn't written by him)]
zac brown band and james taylor - colder weather / sweet baby james
[UPDATE: there was something so touching when james taylor took to these lyrics, which was a wonderful ending to a really strong show!]
derby - if ever there's a reason
[currently playing every (what seems like) hour as the theme song for ford explorer cars, derby actually recorded this sweet airy ditty back in 2008 from their 'posters fade' album. hailing from portland, OR, this 5 man band are getting serious national exposure that hopefully they can sustain with their new material. if i can make a suggestion, perhaps they should re-shoot the video for this song first!]
