WONGIE INDIE POP SONG OF THE WEEK: kesha - hymn

kesha - hymn
always a highlight off her last album 'rainbow', this self empowerment anthem is now taking on a new meaning as kesha is dedicating it to the united we dream organization which helps youth combat deportation and feel safe within their immigrant communities from the government. one of the jams of the summer has gone political yo!

WONGIE POP SONG OF THE WEEK: macklemore feat kesha - good old days

macklemore feat kesha - good old days
with his new album gemini out the same day as the release of this excellent single with kesha, the one two punch is a nice change since it feels like it's been ages since we've had a good track from the seattle based rapper. though there was some backlash from his last release with ryan lewis, the rapper doesn't seem to be taking himself as seriously now and we are back to the days of catchy tunes mixed with insta-hooks. working with kesha is a smart move too! nice one this!

VIDEO PREMIERE!: kesha - dirty love

kesha - dirty love
might as well start off the new year with a nasty bang. kesha directs her first video and shows off her hot booty to the masses. it's a nice change of pace for the pop star and hopefully we'll get to hear more diverse sound from her in the future (cause deep down, i'm convinced she's a hippie songwriter with rock leanings).

VIDEO PREMIERE!: ke$ha feat will.i.am - crazy kids

ke$ha feat will.i.am - crazy kids
finally a video of one of our favorite pop songs out at the moment. easily one of the best things she's put out in ages, we are indeed crazy fans!

WONGIE POP SONG OF THE WEEK: ke$ha feat will.i.am - crazy kids

ke$ha feat will.i.am - crazy kids
FINALLY a new track from ke$ha that requires repeat listening! her recent releases have been a bit underwhelming, but this dr luke co-production offers up a lovely guitar based loop (with whistles!) before throwing down some dirty grooves in the process. i love this song so much that i'm willing to ignore will.i.am's involvement!

VIDEO PREMIERE: ke$ha - die young

ke$ha - die young
it's insane that the dirty skank schtick ended up launching a proper pop princess career with decent songs to boot. reuniting with producer dr luke (and a little help from fun. singer nathan ruess), kesha returns with an insta pop anthem for the season. sadly she still looks like she needs a shower... sigh...

WONGIE VIDEO OF THE WEEK: ke$ha feat wiz khalifa, andre 3000, T.I. and lil wayne - sleazy (remix 2.0)

ke$ha feat wiz khalifa, andre 3000, T.I. and lil wayne - sleazy (remix 2.0)
[director nicholaus goossen really brings on the sleazy and i can't look away!]

BEST OF 2011: guilty pleasures #1-10

1. Britney Spears – Til The World Ends
[here's the deal, even though this is a britney track that she probably read into a machine, the end result is still a solid club track that proved skanky kesha is secretly a talented songwriter that can crank out hooks with the best of them. best guilty pleasure of the year and i'm proud to admit to that!]

2. Pixie Lott – All About Tonight
[i literally sang "i bought a new pair of shoooooooes........" in my best ethel merman voice for a good month when i found myself loving this dance pop ditty that only a middle aged auntie would love. F... am i now a middle aged auntie?]

3. The Saturdays – All Fired Up
[no matter how much i mocked this stupid club song (it's literally made up of ONLY 'club slangs'), i still found myself bopping along to it at all times of the day. it beat me down people... and i'm all fired up for it!]

4. Katy Perry – The One That Got Away
[to be perfectly honest, this song is wonderful enough to make it onto the main 'best of...' list. it's just that i couldn't find placement anywhere on my large chart (you'll see). hence this sentimental gem got shafted to the sidebar, kind of apropos with it's title really...]

5. One Direction – Gotta Be You / What Makes You Beautiful
[the runner up best boyband of the year (though i'm sure loads of tween gals will disagree) bring on the goods with two very easy on the ears tracks that i definitely would listen ONLY in the confines of my ipod or singing in the shower. "cause it's gotta be yooooooouuuuuuuuu!" oh wait, you can hear that? crap...]

6. Ke$ha - Blow
[skank queen kesha brings on a surprisingly genius solid club track that definitely doesn't blow. i still feel like i picked up a venereal disease after listening to it, but at least i had fun doing it!]

7. JLS - Take A Chance On Me / She Makes Me Wanna (feat Dev)
[the JLS boys join in on the eurotrash pop with their 'she makes me wanna' gem (heck even 2011 guilty pleasure mainstay dev makes an appearance) then switch it up with the mid tempo cheesey brilliance of 'take a chance on me'! solid pop output makes for a great year for these boys!]

8. Alexis Jordan – Good Girl
[how alexis goes from coy to a full on dramatic plead is pretty impressive for anyone looking for a girlfriend from hell. all ingredients for the perfect guilty pleasure if you ask me!]

9. Dev – Dancing In The Dark
[the genius with this track is how it starts off guido thumpalicious and turns into a miami club track instead. the fact that i love it so much tells me that i am trashy on multiple levels! sweet!]

10. 2ne1 – I Am The Best
[with a crazy ass video and a hook ridden sassy track to boot, 2ne1 is probably one of the few kpop acts that will do the crossover into english language radio. PLUS, these gals look like they would cut you if you pissed them off in an alley (which makes me kind of love them even more)!]

AUDIO LEAK: britney spears feat nicki minaj & kesha - till the world ends (remix)

britney spears feat nicki minaj & kesha - till the world ends (remix)
[oh boy, this is just a cluster F of a mess in which team britney are just trying to cram in other pop princesses into the mix. i kind of wish the remix was a totally different monster in the process, but alas it's just glorified karaoke on kesha's part and an almost different track when nicki joins in. kind of weird...]

RANDOM VIDEO WITH A CELEBRITY: ke$ha - blow

ke$ha - blow
[part of the james van der beek meme-volution campaign, our very own dawson shows up in the latest ke$ha video playing himself and then fighting to the death with lasers (and taking down some unicorns with him). random and part of the 2011 "i'm bearable" campaign of ke$ha-ster]

ACTUALLY FUNNY: ke$ha - stephen

ke$ha - stephen
[i'm kind of indifferent about ke$ha so when i saw this video supposedly produced for her upcoming tour, i was surprised that i not only watched the whole thing to the end, but also had a smile throughout. so for those in the same ke$ha boat as i, here is a totally non-offensive video just for you.]

NEW VIDEO!: ke$ha - take it off

ke$ha - take it off
[skank poptress returns with another all over the place single. what's interesting about this release is actually the lovely video directed by paul hunter and the rainbow powdered effects that take over the 2nd half of this ditty. now THAT is cool!]
