white - blush
um... what is this post punk disco with a funky groove and crazy sax thrown in? it's from new scottish 5 piece white and it's kind of genius in that sweaty 3am beyond drenched boogie kind of way. how lovely!
v v - shift
[UPDATED with new video!]
world premiering on popjustice, v v (aka vv brown) is bringing a futuristic fabulousness to her fans. sounding a tad japanese-y in it's musical references i can only imagine the video that is going to accompany this fun new gem!
alison wonderland feat wayne coyne - u don't know
working with flaming lips lead singer wayne coyne, sydney based dj/producer/ singer alice scholler (aka alice wonderland) is definitely gaining some intl cred with her latest single 'u don't know'. featuring none other than mclovin christopher mintz-plasse in the video, the trap friendly indie dance pop tune is already on the influential triple j hitlist and set for release internationally in the coming months. turn it up!!
major lazer feat ariana grande - all my love (OST the hunger games mockingjay part 1)
continuing it's hot streak as one of the best soundtracks of the year, check out this fun dance anthem between major lazer and the current princess of pop ariana grande. nice one!
gorgon city feat liv - no more
the ever classy gorgon city duo offer up this lovely house tune (with the heartbreakingly catchy chorus) for the season as they head over to miami for the annual massive dance winter music conference. i'm sure this number will go down huge! just awesome!
katy b - crying for no reason (morri$ remix)
nothing like turning an already great single on it's head into a different kind of mood. thank you morri$!!!!
dj fresh vs jay fay feat ms dynamite - dibby dibby sound
it's a double dose of ms dynamite as she offers up her awesome skillz to this dancehall meets trap meets who knows what else mash up thanks to dj fresh and 19 year old wunderkind jay fay. hawt!
the xx - sunset (jamie xx edit)
why the WHOLE xx album didn't try to beef up their sound is beyond me (jamie xx is a member of the band for gosh sake!) this is a very nice version with a kooky french tv video to boot. remix the whole album jamie xx!!!
lulu james - step by step
and the next gen grace jones award goes to this tanzanian born/uk based vocalist who fully embraces the deep hypnotic tribal disco sounds of yesteryear. my only complaint is that i wish the beats got a bit bigger and louder as the track progresses, hopefully a remix will rectify that. definitely one to watch for 2013!
bloc party - ratchet
easily one of the danciest tracks bloc party have ever put out, this also sets up a brand new ep of new material coming out later this summer. turn up the track, get your hipster dancing steps ready and get rachet!
chase & status feat louis m^tters - lost and not found
further proof that 90's dance culture is back in full force, chase & status offer up their 1st single from their upcoming album and it's a full on rave/breakbeat gem with the soothing vocals of louis m^tters floating above it all. hot!
hadouken! - levitate
you have to give it up to indie dance band hadouken for being smart enough to utilize social media and offering a totally hypnotic compilation video of amazing feats using their song as the soundtrack. since they are self releasing, the song has been heard at least 30 million times (thanks to this 'people are awesome' youtube campaign) and has rocketed to the top 10 of the itunes dance music chart. lets see if they can sustain this buzz when their album 'every weekend' comes out next month, but for now, people are awesome don't you think?
jakwob feat maiday - fade
our song for the week gets a proper video for the masses. still amazing weeks later, so this really is a good excuse to just listen to this wonderful song again!
diplo & swick - keep it gully
don't know how gully it is when the grooves are so much fun, but damn diplo and swick for offering my jam for the weekend! turn this mutha up yo!!!
monsta - holdin on (skrillex and nero remix)
i've been holding up a treasure trove of dance tracks on my ipod and figure today is probably the best day to just pass on what i've been jamming to in my head for the past few months. this remix by skrillex and nero is so insane because it literally feels like someone playing laser tag in your brain. yes, i just compared dubstep to laser tag...
wanna hear the original? here it is below:
monsta - holdin on
clean bandit - a&e (random acts)
with a core group of a dj, a drummer, a string quartet and a rotating collective of singer/rappers, clean bandit offer up a fresh dance sound that plays with soul, electronic and hip hop all in one go. AND it sounds great in the process! definitely a band to watch in 2013!
